BLDC motor control algorithm and firmware development engineer will work on contemporary motor control algorithms like FOC, TRAP. Job responsibilities include leading the development of functional blocks and algorithm features related to FOC and TRAP, implementing the algorithms on TI’s internal DSP/controllers, review, test, maintains and trouble shoot system software for evaluation module hardware used by internal engineering teams and evaluation platforms for customers. Strong documentation discipline and practice is a must have skill. Successful candidate will operate in both a research environment focusing with algorithms, electronics, demos as well as a product development environment which is time sensitive to needs of customers, markets and production. This role will encompass collaboration with cross functional hardware and software engineering teams within the group and with other TI peer groups. Ability to work progressively and independently by managing competing priorities will be pivotal for the role.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Developments of functional blocks and own/lead the development of FOC and TRAP algorithms as a closed system use case. This includes MATLAB/PSIM modeling, working closely with systems and apps teams, converting the customer requirements into algorithm features
  2. Development of floating point and fixed point C code from the available and new algorithm features for porting the solutions on TI’s C2000 DSP
  3. Familiarity with motor control applications and use cases, convert the system requirements to algorithm/software requirements
  4. Strong fundamentals on control theory, ability to write state machine
  5. Identifying algorithm level gaps based on system use case, realizing those blocks in MATLAB and verifying the blocks in model based environment
  6. Implementation of algorithm features into ROM code by cycles and memory optimizations with efficient coding
  7. Conversant with Q formats, math functions development on fixed point processor
  8. Defining software architecture, design principles and assembling functional blocks
  9. WBS, task partitioning and resource planning for implementation of algorithms on TI’s C2000 DSP
  10. ability to reverse engineer and extract core and flow of legacy code base
  11. Automation and test framework development for firmware, working with DV and test team on test case definition and execution
  12. Drive production quality firmware development, with well-defined schedules adhering to code quality
  13. Cross functional collaboration, representing firmware on new device development, working with design, DV, test and Apps team
  14. Driving SW requirements and development for diverse catalog customers in motor control domain
  15. Ability to reuse the code and tailoring the firmware development requirements with strong reuse mindset
  16. Define the firmware development flow, driver the development including the ROM code release for the device design.
  17. Familiarity with industrial and household appliances safety standards and adherence on safety software development process will be advantage

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with a minimum 5 years of applications support experience
  2. Strong fundamentals in Motor control algorithms
  3. Firmware and Embedded Systems knowledge
  4. Experience maintaining MATLAB, Bitbucket, development IDE
  5. Fundamental digital and analog hardware debug capabilities
  6. Solid software debugging skills and familiarity with hardware and development boards for firmware verification

Strong technical background, with the ability to produce high quality technical documentation
