We are currently recruiting for Registered Nurses at Central Regional Hospital for multiple positions/shifts on the Medical Psychiatric Unit (MPU). The primary purpose of this area is to provide Medical Surgical care for acute illnesses, chronic conditions unable to be treated by the psych unit, and functions as the Emergency Response Team (CODE Blue). Patients admitted to this area often have multiple issues which require various levels of care from independence to total care. In addition, MPU acts as the Employee Clinic after hours and patient clinic for patients returning from OSH/ambulatory care procedures.

The Registered Nurse position (performing in the Charge Nurse role) will supervise the tasks and duties of other Professional Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Healthcare Technicians (Certified Nursing Assistant). The Charge Nurse is responsible for completion of shift assignments, medication administration, participation in treatment teams and all other required duties within the scope of the role and licensure.

Our shifts are 8 hour shifts: 7:00am - 3:30pm; 3:00pm - 11:30am and 11:00pm - 7:30am, including rotating weekends and holidays as scheduled. Pay is competitive and we offer shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shifts and weekends. These full-time positions are eligible for the full state benefits including health insurance and retirement.

Important Note:

* These positions are designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.
* RN licensure in North Carolina or Compact State Licensure is required.

As of June 1, 2022, the new pay grade and salary range will be:


$55,518 - $83,278

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they clearly possess all of the following:

* Must possess basic knowledge of psychiatric illnesses and how they impact medical conditions
* Must be able to perform skills associated with administration of Oxygen, IV fluid/IV medication administration, dressing changes, CVAD, EKG's, telemetry, and eligibility for ACLS certification.
* Must be able to delegate and supervise patient care delivery by healthcare technicians, LPN's, and other RN's when performing charge nurse role.
* Must be able to successfully complete nursing care clinical competencies.
* Proficiency in written and verbal forms of English.
* Graduation and degree(s) from an accredited school of professional nursing with valid licensure from NC Board of Nursing

ADA Physical Requirements will be discussed with the applicant during the interview process but include the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Must successfully pass Employee Health Screening.

Must successfully pass and maintain credentials for CPR and CRH Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Course after hire.

Management prefers experience in a psychiatric, medical, and other healthcare setting but will provide training of newly licensed graduates.

NOTE: Multi-State Compact License must be converted to NC Licensure within 90 days of North Carolina residency

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina

Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.

Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);

(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;

(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
