SUMMARY

PAT RN will work with PAT staff to compile comprehensive pre-admission testing information for each surgical patient.

Demonstrates quality patient service during interactions with patients, coworkers, and vendors:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Conduct phone assessment or interview for each surgical patient to obtain medical and medication history.
* Conduct patient teaching with the patient and/or family member. Answer questions adequately or refer the patient to the appropriate staff member when necessary.
* Set-up pre-admission testing (i.e. EKG or lab work) if the patient is unable to complete testing at the primary care physicians office.
* Maintain a line of communication between PAT department staff and coordinator, surgery scheduling staff, anesthesia staff and surgery center staff.
* Assist in maintaining a computer database for tracking surgical patients.
* Communicate with primary care physicians, cardiologists, oncologists, etc. to obtain necessary information for the appropriate medical evaluation preoperatively.
* Maintain operation of the PAT department in the absence of the PAT Coordinator.
* Completes appropriate documentation of telephone nursing assessment information accurately and in a timely manner.
* Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

* Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
* Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 5 years experience.
* Excellent communication skills required.
* Pre-admission testing experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

* Current Ohio RN license
* CPR certification

Location: Work takes place in a normal office environment. Travel to other CVP locations may be necessary to fulfill essential duties and responsibilities of the job. Thus, those needing to travel for work must have access to dependable transportation, and driving record must meet company liability carrier standards.

Exposure: This position requires the person to work various hours, as the surgery center is generally open from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. May be exposed to blood or bodily fluids. May also be exposed to various cleaning supplies.

Equipment: The equipment typically used in this position is a computer, fax, copier, printer, scanner and telephone. Must have good working knowledge of Word, Excel and Access. Other equipment may be used as needed. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment.
