Discovery Life Sciences is a globally recognized contract services laboratory that leverages the most current technologies to comprehensively support discovery, translational, and clinical research for the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology and Diagnostic industry as well as Academic and Research Institutes. The newly formed Proteomics Division is seeking an experienced Senior/Principal Scientist with a record of high impact research involving quantitative proteomics to join the group. The successful candidate will play a key role in the Proteomics efforts within the company and drive the development and application of cutting-edge mass spectrometry-based proteomics with an opportunity to work and grow in a fast-paced environment. Location is Onsite in Boston, MA or Huntsville, AL.

Responsibilities:

* Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry instrumentation (timsTOF; Orbitrap Fusion, Q-Exactive HF-X, and/or Exploris; Sciex ZenoTOF 7600; other) to support client biomarker development projects.
* Execute proteomic studies and data analysis and communicate effectively with internal and external clients and experts from a variety of technical backgrounds.
* Develop and apply all aspects of proteomics workflows including experimental design, sample analysis, data analysis, and summarize data for client reports, presentations, and publications with accountability for accuracy.
* Lead the development and optimization of new technological and data analysis platforms and methods.
* Demonstrate creative and independent scientific thinking to solve complex technical and scientific problems.
* Operate effectively in a multidisciplinary matrix environment, providing leadership and insight in the discipline.
* Proactively communicate with all stakeholders and share knowledge and learning.
* Mentor and train laboratory personnel in equipment, existing and new protocols, software upgrades, and process flows.
* Troubleshoot and resolve issues with equipment; escalate issues to appropriate party, as needed
* Manage concurrent tasks in varying stages of completion
* Provide leadership and assistance, as needed, to other research team members and mentor colleagues to enable their scientific potential
* Delegate assignments, as required, to ensure optimum process efficiency
* Maintains an accurate and up-to-date laboratory notebook or tracks work as required by the project or supervisor
* Respect the privacy of the personal information of patients, co-workers, and all individuals with whom the Company interacts
* Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to the Company and its operations
* Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

* Ph.D. in life sciences preferably in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Proteomics or relevant discipline requiring 3 years' relevant post-doctoral experience or, a Master's degree in life sciences preferably in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Proteomics or relevant discipline requiring hands-on laboratory work and 8+ years' relevant experience.
* Proven track record of driving proteomics research projects by designing and conducting experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, and summarizing experimental results for reports, presentations, and publications.
* Expertise in development and application of mass spectrometry-based methods for quantitative proteomics
* Experience with analysis of post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation and glycosylation.
* Experience with DIA and intelligent data acquisition workflows is a plus.
* Experience with a variety of proteomic data analysis packages including commercial software and programing languages such as R or Python.
* Experience with robotic automation and high throughput LC-MS/MS.
* Meticulous attention to detail, both in actual laboratory practice and in documentation
* Proficiency with highly specialized laboratory equipment (automation platforms, next generation DNA sequencers, fluorescent microscopes, mass spectrophotometers, etc.)
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to communicate with peer level managers to resolve issues that impact client projects
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments and resolve multiple complex problems simultaneously
* Excellent computer skills to include Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive and Google Docs.

This job is performed in a laboratory environment. Prolonged standing may be involved when performing laboratory tasks. A variety of laboratory equipment is used, including manual and automated pipette, fragment analyzers, liquid handling robotic equipment, microfluidics, mass spectrometers, thermocyclers, plate readers, etc. The equipment used may be noisy at times. Work requires the ability to see and handle objects on a repetitive basis. Work involves lifting or moving objects frequently which weigh up to 25 pounds. Work may involve exposure to hazardous chemicals and may involve contact with infectious diseases. The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including lab coats, safety glasses and gloves is required when performing certain operations. When handling liquid nitrogen, PPE includes face shields, cryogenic insulated aprons and gloves. Duties require the ability to communicate clearly with internal or external contacts, either verbally or in writing.
