In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS)

Registry Provider

Salary $15.50 / hour

The In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program offers in-home care to seniors and persons with disabilities so that they can remain safely in their own homes as an alternative to out-of-home care and placement.

IHSS Registry Providers perform a variety of household chores, errands, personal care tasks, and other related duties to support IHSS recipients.  Services are provided in the homes of IHSS recipients.

Typical Tasks:
  • Assists with activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living
  • Assists with personal care activities including, but not limited to: bathing, dressing, grooming, bowel and bladder care, menstrual care, ambulation, transfers including getting in or out of bed, feeding, medication management and assistance with prosthesis
  • Performs domestic tasks including, but not limited to: sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, washing kitchen counters and sinks, cleaning bathrooms, storing food and supplies, taking out the garbage, dusting, changing bed linens, shopping and errands, meal preparation and meal clean-up
  • Accompany IHSS recipients to medical appointments or alternative resource sites, as needed
  • Works with the IHSS recipient(s) to create a work schedule and time of care. Hours are flexible and vary depending on the needs of the recipient(s)

Requirements:

  • Ability to plan, organize and manage work time efficiently
  • Ability to carry out written and oral instructions, and record the number of hours worked each week
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Must submit to a Department of Justice background check
  • Must attend IHSS Provider Orientation and Provider Registry training, which includes CPR certification
  • Must have a valid form of identification (i.e. CA ID card, passport)
  • Must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
Knowledge of:
  • The basic principles, methods, techniques, and standards of good housekeeping and personal hygiene
  • Acceptable household management and personal care standards
  • Universal precaution techniques
  • Body mechanics and proper lifting and transferring techniques
  • The needs of older adults and individuals with disabilities
Desirable Qualifications
  • CPR Certification
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License
