*Position Overview*

To lead the development of and improvements to metallurgical practices and products; resolve any metallurgical and product quality issues having plant-wide implications; to manage the provision of laboratory services to the Plant; to provide expert technical support to enable ARPNA to be the preferred supplier to our customers; and, to provide expert technical support to allow ARPNA to be the lowest cost producer.

*Responsibilities: *
* Direct amendments or additions to standard metallurgical practices for the achievement of specified key-end-of-line (KELO) mechanical properties and reduced property variability.
* Identify and lead modifications to alloy, composition and/or thermomechanical processing steps that will either lower cost or improve performance of our products.
* Manage physical and chemical laboratory services to the Newport Operations within budget and in accordance with agreed levels of service.
* Accountable for all safety and environmental procedures and performance for laboratory functions and Technical personnel.
* Provide expert metallurgical advice and assistance to the Managers of Engineering, Process Analysis, and Operations; colleagues within department; Research and Develop personnel, Materials, and Marketing and Sales departments, and Customers.
* Manage ARPNA priorities/projects and scope of work with Secat.
* Develop and maintain content of process control plan system relative to customer’s needs and laboratory services within Newport.
* Coordinate and manage ARPNA development projects utilizing continuous cast sheet.
* Training and development of metallurgical professionals and laboratory technicians. Act as a technical “mentor” to those personnel.
* Primary contact for Sales and Product Engineers to resolve customer related issues.
* Develop and maintain relationships with outside technical bodies and colleagues in other companies and in the aluminum industry to enable appropriate information interchange.
* Continually plan, monitor and analyze the work of the Technical personnel and identify, evaluate and implement improved methods, systems and equipment to increase its effectiveness.
* Coordinate maintenance and continuous improvement of ISO9000 and ISO14001 at the Uhrichsville facilities.

*Qualifications: *

*_Education and Experience_*

The role requires a metallurgical engineering degree or equivalent engineering degree or 10 – 15 years’ experience in the manufacturing and quality control environment.

*_Required Skills_*

Data processing, SPC experience, and computer skills in business graphics and quality control.

*_Preferred Skills_*

QS9000 implementation and maintenance, metallurgical experience and rolling mill background.

*_Decision Making_*

Must possess strong decision making and problem solving skills including the ability to solve problems while exhibiting practical judgment and realistic understanding of the issues involved. Must be able to overcome obstacles and find reasonable resolutions to situations on a case by case basis as encountered. Must have the ability and confidence to make decisions relating to role’s accountabilities. Must exercise discretion when determining if direction from manager is needed.

*_Analytical Thinking_*

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to recognize data needed in order to make decisions, collect that data, and analyze in order to determine direction in which to proceed. If issue is beyond authority level or scope of work, must recommend plan of action to manager in order to proceed.


Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
