Lead Project Engineer

PURPOSE:  To lead the engineering and design product line for Bent River Machine. To communicate with existing customers and potential customers to solicit projects. To develop and continually improve the resources both capital and personal required to support the product line. To ensure the design and automation product line is profitable. Develop and implement engineering and design strategic objects and business development.


  • Works with the sales manager to develop quality, competitive and creative design solution to achieve customer requirements. Crafted correctly customers will look at Bent River as a partner for automation and design solutions.
  • Collaborates with customers and sales managers to create a design specification which accurately encompasses the customer requirements.
  • Generate project proposals based on design specification.
  • Leads a team of internal/external mechanical, electrical, controls and software engineers with hands-on involvement to develop advanced technology solutions in automation
  • Prepares, communicates, and monitors individual/contract workloads to optimize and adhere to project schedules as well as capacity management to ensure customer expectations are met
  • Recruit, inspire, mentor, grow and develop engineering talent while providing vision and direction for the team.
  • Ensures final output of machine designs are functional, cost-effective, and meet customer requirements
  • Develops, deploys, monitors, and measures internal design standards within all engineering subgroups
  • Manage internal design reviewsand leads in design reviews with customer
  • Work closely with all departments, ensuring you are a key team member in transitioning new projects/designs through documentation, prototyping, production, testing and commissioning
  • Manages Bent River Machine’s Engineering Change process through a standard operating procedure to include integration and hand-off of designs to the Purchasing and Operations departments.
  • Provides technical expertise on strategic initiatives and presents key industry trends to ownership to create and deploy new and unique approaches in automation
  • Provides periodic insights and reports to senior management to ensure continued alignment with department and company goals
  • Monitor’s vendor products and new technologies by attending tradeshows and conferences
  • Collaborate with the sales team to create sales channels and position Bent River Machine as an expert in the automation industry
  • Leads the Assembly department. Works with the Fabrication Lead to prioritize assembly jobs and set a schedule for the Assembly department that meets the company’s delivery goals. 


  • Must be able to take on more complex and advanced engineering projects while balancing managerial responsibilities
  • Proven results with creation and maintenance of software standards and drawing library
  • Work in the establishment of engineering design standards and re-use recommendations

Experience & Education

  • 7+ years of professional experience designing and developing industrial automation
  • 3+ years of experience in a management leadership role
  • MS Engineering preferred; BS acceptable with demonstrated experience
  • Strong knowledge and experience with engineering principles and procedures that apply to machine design, part handling, robotic end-of-arm-tool design, semi-automated work cell layout, robotic work cell layout, process flow, operator ergonomics and machine aesthetics
  • Experience with programming languages and software programs relevant to the industry
  • Proficient in the use of SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD to generate 3D solid model designs from concept to fabrication
  • Must possess in-depth understanding in one or more engineering fields (i.e. electrical, software, mechanical)
  • Familiarity with industry policies and procedures to ensure safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance
  • Candidate should be proficient in ANSI/ASME and GD&T standards
  • Thorough understanding of machine controls and systems integration
  • Thorough understanding of motion control technologies and mechanical drive train design including the application of stepper motors, servo motors, pneumatics and hydraulics

$99,000.00 - $137,000.00
