Technical Author

Technical Author

Location: Glasgow

We are now looking for a Technical Author who will work collaboratively with our growing Product Development, Professional Services and Training teams to compose clear, user-friendly product and process information for our clients, sales and marketing teams and for AutoRek staff.

AutoRek is headquartered in Glasgow however the role has scope for remote working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and maintain technical documentation.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts to clarify any technical issues
  • Translate complex technical product information to ensure it is appropriate for the intended audience.
  • Interview experts and sales and marketing specialists
  • Collect and edit complex information
  • Produce new documents like user manuals and instructions
  • Update or rewrite existing documentation
  • Commission photographs or illustrations as required
  • Work on digital or multi-channel content like blogs, e-learning or podcasts
  • Ensure accessibility and readability for all content.
  • Ensure all content meets relevant design, style, and brand guidelines.
  • Test output with content users
  • Create scripts for video tutorials
  • Create infographics and screenshot mark-ups
  • Create and build our user assistance infrastructure, including how-to, FAQs, and Help sections

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a self-motivated, self-managed individual who will own, design and develop our technical documentation library. The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar role
  • Ability to write user-friendly, engaging copy about highly technical subjects
  • Ability to understand and accurately translate technical information for a general audience
  • Proven experience of achieving verbal consistency and an appreciation of tone and style
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail
  • Ability to use analytics to improve user-facing content
  • Ability to work to tight schedules
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Analytical and questioning skills to get information from experts
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a multidisciplinary team

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of data management / reporting applications
  • Knowledge of cloud and SaaS software applications
  • Knowledge of Financial Service market, asset management, banking or insurance.
