Senior Buyer

Purpose of the Position

The role is to ensure Plymouth site is adequately supplied with materials & products necessary to support manufacturing and the wider business functions for continuity of production to meet customer demands.

Drive contractual negotiations and development of new procurement strategies whilst considering Total Cost of Product

Set and manage Service Level Agreements with key suppliers, managing any under performance

Key Responsibilities

Maintain records that meet the requirements of the Quality Management System and ensure systems and processes are adhered to and robust to achieve and maintain AS9100/IATF standards

Strategic development of key suppliers in support of HT objectives Service/Quality/Price

Work closely with Planning team to cover any supply risks on core material delays, providing action plan to avoid Customer order delays

Pro-actively review material and service costs, research alternative suppliers and carry out effective price negotiations and annual benchmarking to support effective cost reduction activities

Work with internal specialists & suppliers to ensure compatibility between the requirements of HT and supplier capabilities

Focus on continuous improvement of supply and scheduling systems

We Take Responsibility

Completing objectives and KPIs set by the UK Purchasing Manager against business requirements

Ensure Service Level Agreements are in place with all key suppliers, structuring improvement plans for under performance

Reporting to Senior Management inventory targets on critical raw materials

Proud of our Team

Support team members and colleagues to maintain excellent standards of service across the business to ensure Company targets are met

Work effectively within the UK Purchasing team to assist continuous improved solutions

Responsible for training, discipline of Purchasing team staff in line with Company policy

Working hours: Mon-Thurs 8.30am-5.00pm, Fri 8.30am-3.30pm with some flexibility as required to meet job roles

Specific Skill Requirements

Education / Technical Skills / Experience


  • Business Studies degree or Diploma in CIPS (min level 4)
  • Microsoft office experience (word, excel, outlook)
  • Knowledge & experience of working with MRP (materials requirements planning)
  • Confident driving contractual negotiations
  • Excellent negotiation/Expediting skills


  • Capable of managing large amounts of data
  • Strong background in Supplier management
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
