Catering/Chef Energy Manager

Permanent, full time

Salary: £30,000-£40,000 p.a.

Location: Home-basedremote working / working from homewith travel to clients businesses across the UK. You will need to be permanently living in the UK

This role would be ideal for a chef who has a good practical building systems and equipment knowledge and wishes to use their skills to develop a career in energy efficiency and sustainability.

You will be a practical hands-on type of person who is generally inquisitive as to how things work. Youd rather do DIY at home and learn about equipment and building than get some else in to sort it.

We never advertise, but our client list is growing, - so we must be doing something right! but this means were starting to get a bit stretched, so that gives us a fantastic opportunity - we can add to our small but growing team. This is exciting because we can bring in more ideas, more innovation and more experience, which can only make us even better at what we do.

We are now looking for aCatering Energy Managerto join us.

Were looking for someone who shares our passion. Someone who in addition to relevant experience and qualifications has first-hand experience of hospitality.

We dont have an office, we spend our time either working from home or visiting the sites and offices of our clients so youll need to self-motivated, be comfortable working remotely and have a suitable environment at home to do that in. Youll also need to be able to travel to clients sites on a regular basis. Approximately 80% of our clients sites are south of Birmingham / Home Counties, so being based in the south would be beneficial.

The Role

In this role you will helping our clients reduce their energy consumption. This is a hands on role where youll be visiting sites, identifying opportunities, making building system changes, training staff and monitoring on-going performance. You will often be the key contact for a client.

What will you be doing:

  • Collating and analysing data
  • Identifying trends, anomalies and opportunity
  • Visiting sites and carrying out audits and surveys (often getting to site first thing early in the morning prior to the first staff arriving)
  • Making adjustments to building systems to ensure efficient operation
  • Training site teams in the operation of systems and best practice
  • Identifying potential technical solutions
  • Preparing reports and presenting information and data
  • Proposing strategies and goals
  • Monitoring on-going performance
  • Building relationships, particularly with clients and their teams
  • Attending meetings with clients

As with any small business, we all need to be flexible, so from time to time youll get involved with other areas of the business.


Its essential that you have experience in:

  • Analysing energy data
  • Carrying out surveys and audits in hospitality businesses
  • Knowing how commercial kitchens, cellars etc work
  • Understanding of building M&E systems
  • Behaviour change and training
  • Writing reports which are clear and action based
  • Ongoing monitoring and targeting
  • Dealing with clients / senior personnel
  • Microsoft Excel, Word & PowerPoint

It will also be good if you have experience in some of the following areas:

  • Energy and carbon compliance such as ESOS & SECR
  • Energy and carbon technology suitable for hospitality businesses
  • Energy and carbon standards and disclosure schemes
  • Environmental and sustainability programs


  • Preferably a relevant degree.
  • Knowledge and experience however is equally if not more important.

Having relevant experience and / or qualifications is obviously important, but its essential that you have the right attitude, culture fit, eagerness and ability to learn and can bring fresh ideas to help improve what we do.
