Defense Suicide Research Project Manager

FMG is seeking an intelligent and motivated senior researcher needed to lead work on suicide among Service members in support of a Government client. This individual's primary responsibility will be working closely with the client to support report writing, brief creation, quantitative analyses, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and providing public affairs guidance related to suicide. This job is best suited for an individual who enjoys working closely with clients, managing large-scale projects, possesses excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, and prefers working in a cooperative interdisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with clients to fulfill requests, provide continuous support, and develop a strong forward-looking relationship.

  • Managing several concurrent large-scale tasks of varying levels of complexity, providing quality control and financial controls for tasks.

  • Preparing research reports and briefs for analyst and non-analyst audiences and other external communications summarizing research methods, findings, and implications for policymakers.

  • Directly interfacing with team members and clients to understand their needs, manage their expectations, respond to ad hoc requests, and communicate the most pertinent results to them in a way that is useful and easy to understand.

  • Preparing public affairs guidance related to suicide in the Military.

  • Developing a strong understanding of suicide-related research and defense programs related to suicide prevention.

  • Organizing and tracking quantitative analyses.

  • Coordinating with multiple stakeholders to obtain needed information.

  • Working under tight deadlines to fulfill requests.


  • Graduate degree in social science field such as psychology, sociology, public health, communication, or related (PhD preferred).

  • A minimum of 5 years of post-graduate applied experience leading research projects.

  • Experience working in the Defense environment preferred, especially within the Office of Force Resiliency portfolio.

  • Experience studying suicide preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully develop and maintain client relationships.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully complete contracts, meeting client standards for deliverables and completing work on-time and within available budgets.

  • Demonstrated experience leading research studies and high-performing research teams.

  • Demonstration of strong verbal and written communications skills.

  • US Citizenship is required due to clearance.

  • Applicants may be subject to a low-level government security investigation and must meet eligibility criteria for access to sensitive information.

  • Applicants must be comfortable working in an environment where research on sensitive matters like suicide and sexual assault is openly discussed.
