Occupancy Specialist/Resident Services Coordinator (Full Time)

This staff support position performs a variety of administrative support including but not limited to those of property management (leasing and occupancy) for public low income units. This position is responsible for the review and validation of applicants for admission to public housing. Employee exercises considerable judgment and initiative in carrying out day-to-day responsibilities of landlord-tenant and Fair Housing laws subject to established procedures, practices, and standards. Duties require considerable knowledge of HUD regulations and the Admissions and Continued Occupancy Policy on tenant selection, the ability to maintain clerical records and to prepare accurate and concise reports. Work involves considerable and constant contact with applicants/residents.

Knowledge and Skills

Bachelor's Degree or an Associate's Degree in public service, social work or a related field, or equivalent experience is required. Applicant must have at least 2 years of administrative and/or community service experience. Some experience and knowledge of local, state, and federal public benefits available to eligible low-income families, including youth, senior citizens, and/or people with disabilities.

Experience in property management or HUD subsidized housing environment is preferred. Proficiency using MS Office applications including Word, Excel, and the Internet; ability to learn and use agency software is also an asset.

Applicant must have excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing. Candidate must effectively communicate and interact with people from a broad range of socio-economic backgrounds. Applicant must be resourceful and able to independently address and resolve issues as they arise. Successor must have the ability to understand, act on and interpret policies, regulations, and procedures as set forth by the Housing Authority and/or HUD.
