Sr. Engineering Manager

You will partner with the product management lead and the project and the delivery leads to build a high-value roadmap of innovation for our organization. You will partner with recruiting to hire engineers for your team and implement mechanisms in place to ensure the organization delivers results. We count on you to lead by example to build our organization in keeping with Electrum’s culture. You will partner with technical leads and guide engineers with your technical expertise by contributing to design reviews and ideation. You will mentor, coach, and grow your engineers.

You will identify bottlenecks in team delivery's pace, suggest ways to resolve those and collaborate with Product managers, and Scrum master to continuously improve the pace of your team. To insist on the highest standards to drive your team to deliver as fast as possible, high-quality products, services, and integrations. It shall be a collaboration with our engineering leaders to innovate and build a platform that enables tool innovation and efficiency.


Your responsibilities:

  • Hire and build a happy, and successful team. You will build and lead the Development department comprising multiple teams of diverse, smart, and driven software engineers. We’re looking for a leader who can manage, mentor, and grow our engineering team.
  • Provide oversight: Work with engineers to understand how everything fits together and how best to deliver meaningful impact.
  • Develop detailed plans for new designs and products and execute long-term strategies that benefit your team and the product stage(s).
  • Understand Engineering KPIs and seek to improve them.
  • Propose project and program budgets.
  • Make determinations for equipment, staff ,and training needs and conduct managerial interviews for candidates, and train engineers to do said interviews.
  • Lead research and development projects that produce new designs, products, and processes.
  • Generate and implement process improvements, especially cross-team processes and check the team’s work for technical accuracy.
  • Hold regular 1:1s with team managers and skip-level 1:1s with all members of their team.
  • Craft individual improvement/goal plans with each direct report and ensure that they receive regular, documented feedback.
  • Provide your team with management mentorship.
  • Enable quad planning team collaboration within product groups.
  • Ensure execution: Make decisions that balance between immediate impact and long-term bets, as well as manage resourcing and prioritization.
  • Enable Product, Quality, and UX performance via a solid stable-counterpart partnership.
  • Ensure psychological safety on your team.
  • Give regular and clear feedback on the individual's performance.
  • Draft quarterly OKRs and Engineering KPIs.
  • Improve product quality, security, and performance.
  • Participate in the Incident Management on-call rotation to help ensure the availability goals for Electrum are met, by working with the team members.
  • Cross-functional management: Work closely with other teams from across the company to deliver impactful projects which may involve multiple disciplines. Also, work with other managers in the office to build upon the office culture and ensure a healthy workplace environment.

Must-Have:

  • Previously managed at least 20+ engineers and have been responsible for their career growth.
  • Computer science background strongly preferred MS or equivalent work experience a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience as a hands-on engineer delivering large-scale production quality services and features.
  • Prior experience as a software engineer building and operating platform services, libraries, and components.
  • Technical depth in platform development and ability to see the “big picture”. Understanding of the differences in technical disciplines and which problems are for the platform to solve and which are not.
  • A proven execution track record that is customer-centric in prioritization - looking to deliver projects that serve the company’s needs and understand the impact.
  • Skilled to collaborate well with teams with different backgrounds / expertise / functions.
  • Passion for technology and commitment to keep up with the latest developments.
  • Technical credibility: Experience as a product engineer and leading teams thereof.
  • Management credibility: Significant experience as an engineering manager.
  • Analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems.
  • Excellent communication skills for overseeing staff and working with other management personnel. To be able to effectively communicate instructions while leading the team to meet their goals.
  • Detail-oriented for understanding complex systems and the ability to pay attention to details, as a minor error can result in major problems.
  • Understanding of the costs of software development/tech debt and long-term maintenance. Organizational skills for keeping track of various budgets, employees, and schedules simultaneously.
  • Experience driving impact through cross-functional leadership.
