Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer - Pulp and Paper - Maine

Job Description

Responsible for coordination of multiple small to large size design, engineering, procurement and construction management (DEPCM) Pulp & Paper industry projects including: leadership of all technical design and coordination, development of project scopes, estimates, schedule and budgetary performance tracking, design quality, and safety. You need to interface with operations, maintenance, engineering and follows projects from design inception, through installation, checkout and start-up and works at the facilities. Project may range from a few $1000 to over a Million.

Drive targeted cost improvement strategies and support the development of budgets that minimize costs while ensuring results and develop forward-looking plans to facilitate capital and operating improvements

The individual will expect to be placed in a position of presenting themselves and the firm to the client in a professional manner. The opportunities will include leading design review presentations and ongoing project meetings, problem resolution, and effective team building.

Lead and coach personnel on making safe and environmentally sound operating and technical decisions and plans to achieve defined performance measures

The person will need to have experience in project execution and design leadership, including client relationships, cost/schedule tracking, and knowledge of Project Management principles.

Design, Engineer, Procure and Construct project engineering.

Engineering Request for Project Support:
  • Review project requirements and determine project scope options
  • Understand the present operation of existing systems
  • Review available data both past and present, including Pi process data, drawings and
  • Evaluate scope options and present option to team
  • Provide Cost estimating of chosen path forward
  • Project initial planning - Quick and simplistic timeline
  • Work with engineering, maintenance and operations on project scheduling
  • Provide estimated project spending schedules
  • Provide CAD review drawings and schematic
  • Check for appropriate Power availability and space availability
  • Provide a higher degree of cost estimation once scope is nailed down
  • Write capital requests (CAPEX) if Capital or obtain a workorder if Maintenance
  • Once Capex or Maintenance approval has been received move to detail design

DESIGN
  • From detail scope of work, work with the Project Manager to
  • Create detail design drawings.
  • Create material lists and equipment needs
  • Design components for the project, flow meter sizing, motor/pump sizing, etc.
  • Size control valves, pumps, Orfice Plates, VF drives, etc
  • Determine cabling paths and sizes
  • Update MCC Drawings
  • Update Power Panels
  • Create motor elementaries
  • Secure PLC and DCS assignments
  • Create detail P&ID's
  • Create instrument lists
  • Create instrument specifications
  • Create Loop Sheets
  • Create installation drawings
  • Determine if in Hazardous location to design appropriately
  • Determine a safety plan
  • Determine outside project needs - additional specialized engineering/Contractors
  • Work with vendors on any New/Better material/Equipment
  • Project installation planning - what need to happen first - are there sequential parts
  • Project scheduling - timeline based on material availability, labor resourcing and operations
  • Set up Design Review Meetings
  • Update SAP
  • Add Material Request for Store Materials

Procurement support
  • Evaluate engineering firms/proposals
  • Review and comment on engineering documents
  • Visits to engineering firms and major equipment vendors when necessary
  • Write construction bid packages (for hiring contractors)
  • Evaluate construction contractors/bids
  • Process control, Electrical, Instrument - Use Lists to specify for purchasing to bid.
  • Support Procurement on material & equipment quotes and requisition
  • Write notice of labor assignments (NLA)
  • Write construction work packages/Construction Scope of Work
  • Provide Construction supervision
  • Write checkout & commissioning plans
  • Write operation & maintenance instructions
  • Provide and assisting in Maintenance and Operations Training
  • Construction punchlists
  • Provide Project Spending checks
  • Assist system checkout
  • Assist commissioning

Post Commissioning
  • Verify operation as expected
  • Support optimization efforts
  • Forensic engineering
  • Project close out


Qualifications
  • Must possess in-depth knowledge and experience of the related systems as it pertains to the discipline. Knowledge and experience should allow for independent decision making concerning discipline system design and project development.
  • Should possess a minimum of two (2) of the following requirements:
    • More than six (6) years experience an any level are welcome.
    • Education/Training:
      • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering field related to the assigned discipline.
      • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering Technology field related to the assigned discipline plus a minimum of an additional four (4) years experience in the assigned discipline field.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to make effective presentations to clients and technical groups.
  • An understanding of the operation of the design tools utilized to perform the development of the project and administrative documents.
  • An understanding of the assigned discipline's applicable standards and codes for industrial facilities.
