Job Summary

Compass Group, the worlds leading contract foodservice company, has a Great Opportunity for career development and growth here at its North America headquarters in Charlotte, NC as a Sr. Staff Accountant with Foodbuy Accountings Team.

Responsibilities:

VA Recognition

  • Perform month-end transactional close tasks including supplier passbacks for complex RPA and manual files, cash applications and journal entries to ensure Vendor Allowances are recognized and booked appropriately.

  • Partner with internal business customers to research and provide direction on proper recognition of rebate income in conjunction with supplier contract terms

  • Record all contractual incentives for assigned suppliers to ensure income is recorded properly and allocated to appropriate customers.

  • Record accruals for Non-transactional income when necessary. Ensure accruals are recorded properly and accurately.

  • Lead monthly analysis and review to ensure Vendor Allowances are allocated to proper Compass Group units and sectors

  • Support complete beverage category with VA recognition, reconciliation and variance analysis to ensure proper income recognition and timely issue escalation

IBS

  • Perform supplier flash review and reporting for assigned suppliers and ensure all material variances are addressed.

  • Complete final IBS review to ensure vendor allowance income was recorded properly and any outstanding actions have been completed.

  • Conduct IBS Research and assist with ad-hoc questions

Close/QC

  • Record month-end close journal entries and complete all related reporting and analysis activities

  • Complete Deferred Income Beverage Balance Sheet Reconciliations are related journal entries

  • Review Sector VA allocations and perform AR research to address discrepancies and assist Vendor Relations with information requests related to non-transactional data

  • Perform analytical and research activities related to VA income.

Reporting

  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis

  • Ad hoc analysis / review as identified or assigned

  • Supplier contract review process - Identify, interpret, and document financial terms

Growth and Improvements Tasks

  • Support / Lead Department Projects:

    o Identify process improvement opportunities

    o Document process and requirements and review for gaps/improvements

    o Assist with problem/process resolutions

    o Implement improvements - document, test, modify, train, etc...

    o Track and report project status to management

Qualifications:

  • Four year degree in Accounting or Finance

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Strong Excel skills required, Access database skills a plus)

  • Ability to multi-task between various priorities, tasks and timelines

  • Detailed oriented with strong analytical/problem solving skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organization and planning skills

  • An established reputation for integrity

  • Collaborative - works well as a member of a team

  • Experience with a large company (> $3 billion sales)

  • Experience with SAP or other large ERP

  • Accounting experience - 4 years corporate or 1 year public

  • CPA certifications or candidate or MBA, preferred

  • Lead internal department initiatives & projects

  • Experience delivering presentations to department management and co-workers

  • General accounting knowledge and understanding of balance sheet process

  • Strong database and data analytic skills

  • Experience participating in process improvement initiates using documented project plan (Kaizen, Lean, Six Sigma etc)

  • Experience mapping and flowcharting business and accounting processes
