Business Development Officer

The Business Development Officer is responsible for performing regularly scheduled visits to police agencies and divisions to increase awareness and cross-sells LAPFCU membership, products, and services. This position is also required to conduct presentations for all police affiliated new hire classes and other presentations as needed. The Business Development Officer is also required to represent LAPFCU's outreach activities as a result of sponsorship opportunities to enhance our public relations efforts.

Essential Duties
  1. Increase member penetration and cross-sell LAPFCU and CUSO products and services in support of organizational member growth goals.
  2. Coordinates monthly/quarterly outreach visits to applicable stations and agencies.
  3. Coordinates and facilitates presentations to law enforcement affiliated organizations.
  4. Performs presentation to partner groups eligible for membership.
  5. Interacts with select law enforcement agency leadership including; chiefs, unions and boards to ensure successful onboarding of new member groups.
  6. Processes member related documents from recruit classes, outreach visits or anytime new business is generated with accuracy.
  7. Maintains close relationship with law enforcement affiliated organizations.
  8. Coordinates or helps area Manager to coordinate special events for both Marketing and Business Development areas such as car sales, Baker to Vegas, Universal Days and other events that would require collateral, vendor service, promotional items and both display logistics.
  9. Possesses up to date expertise in LAPFCU products, services and procedures.
  10. Flexible with working inconsistent hours, including early mornings, nights and weekends

Additional Duties
  1. Performs follow-up member advocacy outbound calls.
  2. Maintains close relationship with affiliated organizations and is up to date with law enforcement structure, hierarchies, and politics.
  3. Identifies new sponsorship opportunities that support law enforcement group activities, events and causes in order to establish new relationships with agencies or divisions within existing agencies.
  4. Works with branch staff in developing business opportunities.
  5. Represents LAPFCU at sponsored activities including lunches, dinners and weekends.
  6. Supports special events such as car sales, shred days, or other related events.
  7. Updates LAPFCU bulletin boards at applicable police stations every quarter
  8. Additional duties as assigned.


  • 3 to 5 years of similar or related experience required in a financial institution in sales or business development role required.
  • Proven ability to give oral presentations and advanced knowledge of financial products and services.

  • College degree in Marketing or Business Administration preferred.

  • Must be knowledgeable in rules and regulations governing IRA and savings accounts. Must also have working knowledge of regulations and laws governing lending such as:
    • Regulation Z - Federal Truth in Lending Act
    • Regulation B - Equal Credit Opportunity Act
    • Regulation C - Equal Housing Act (anti-red lining)
    • Regulation G - Margin Securities Act
    • Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
    • Home Mortgage Act

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • If driving for company business, must have a valid California driver's license and proof of current insurance coverage.

Language Skills
  • Fluent English language skills required. Ability to read, analyze, explain and interpret complex documents and concepts. Ability to respond effectively to complex inquiries or complaints. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.

Computer Skills
  • Personal computer advanced level literacy in various Microsoft Office applications and the Internet.

Physical Demands

This is an office-based position involving primarily non-manual labor. Reliable, predictable, on-time attendance is essential. The associate will spend most of the working time sitting, standing or walking, including significant time using computers. Position requires repetitive hand movements; the daily ability to focus on several tasks at one time, analyze data and draw conclusions, distinguish paper money denominations and other financial instruments, accurately perform mathematical computations, analyze and explain complex information, communicate constantly with others in person, over the phone, and via electronic communications, and calmly and professionally communicate with members who are upset or angry. The position includes frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs. This position always frequent travel and driving.
