The Mechanical Design Engineer's primary responsibility is developing complex electromechanical consumer products using Creo. They will participate on cross functional teams, working primarily with Project Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Industrial Designers, and Product Marketing to understand the product needs and deliver designs that balance cost, performance, and reliability.
The Mechanical Design Engineer is the go-to person for all mechanical design solutions. They will lead the pre-development concept phase, creating breadboard models, refined proof of concept prototypes, and complete product assemblies. The individual may create prototypes using bare hands or computer software, depending on the complexity of the project. Guiding development and manufacture by domestic and overseas partners into production is a key responsibility.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will assist the Project Engineer with design evaluation, communication, and pilot production builds. Additionally, this position will be responsible for testing and troubleshooting designs as needed by the team. For example, working side-by-side with Test Engineers in the lab during developmental phases of the project. They may also use their expertise to modify existing products, improving functionality and reliability.
Apply engineering best practices to provide design solutions based on test and theory
Develop 3D CREO models, 2D drawings, BOM's, and Engineering Change Notices
Design products to meet desired specifications and schedules for new products, cost improvements, and other company objectives
Design, build, and test prototypes to prove out design concepts, design changes, etc.
Provide design direction to manufacturing counterparts as needed
Critique, review, and provided feedback for design improvements
Guide development and manufacture by overseas partners
Research competitor performance and features to benchmark designs
Participate in cross-functional teams, working together to develop project schedules, define product features, perform DFMEA reviews, and brainstorm design solutions
Champion new product development process to ensure success
Develop tests to troubleshoot product designs as needed
Perform product testing for safety, reliability, and performance
Research competitive performance and features to benchmark test results
Analyze test results and issue reports with results, analysis, and recommendations
Participate in value analysis, cost analysis, and quality improvement efforts
Participate in or facilitate review meetings related to design and testing
BSME required or equivalent work experience commensurate to degree
Minimum 3 years CREO design experience required, surfacing experience preferred
Minimum 3 years working in new product development required
Minimum 3 years in plastic part design using CREO required
Fundamental understanding of injection molding required
Documentation and technical writing skills required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required
Experience working in cross-functional teams required
Ability to convey technical concepts through group and one-on-one sessions effectively, including both written and verbal communication to people with varying levels of technical knowledge.

Working knowledge of six sigma methodology a plus
Background in consumer product testing a plus
Working knowledge of simulation tools a plus
Ability to travel internationally required (typically 1 to 3 times per year, up to 3 weeks at a time)
Travel domestically and internationally to manufacturing locations approximately 10% of time.
