Field Claims Supervisor, Homeowners Insurance

The Claims Supervisor, Property-Home would be responsible for the oversight of home property claims in accordance with all Unfair Practices Act in each of the states we service. The Supervisor would be responsible for managing a team of Field Adjusters and Senior Field Adjusters. The ideal candidate should have strong homeowner product knowledge, large loss or construction background and/or strong damage estimating experience.

This position would report to a Field Director based out of our Woodbridge office, NJ location and would be responsible for our NJ and PA territories.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Directs and controls the work of the Field Adjusters. Establishes unit goals for service, production and work quality.

  • Focuses on the staff to deliver an exceptional customer service experience.

  • Monitors assignment of claims to unit members based on complexity, severity, and volume.

  • Supervises all aspects of claim investigation and damage handling

  • Interprets expert reports when making a final determination as to proximate cause, negligence and damages.

  • Interprets whether a specific policy provides coverage or if an exclusion / partial exclusion would apply.

  • Respond to Department of Banking and Insurance complaints.

  • Review, assess and identify fraud / breach in policy conditions and provide insight and direction on how to proceed.

  • Monitor and manage all fraud initiatives across the claims operation and determine the companys exposure.

  • Act as an intermediary between the Company, preferred vendors, public adjusters, contractors, legal representatives and customers. Resolve all disputes that may arise.

  • Investigate and initiate subrogation when applicable. May handle and respond to special civil part lawsuits pertaining to property damage.

  • Provide oversight of reserve adjustments on loss exposures greater than $10,000 for any homeowner line of business.

  • Participate in catastrophic claim handling as requested/needed. This may include traveling to other locations, extended hours and up to a three-week stay.

  • Oversees the units vendor management program.

  • Report new losses and updates to the management team. Prepare production reports.

  • Reviews active and closed files in compliance with Quality Assurance program to identify trends, provide direction, and provide feedback to unit.

  • Reviews and approves settlements that exceed staff authority levels.

  • Evaluate performance of team members and conduct mid-year and annual performance reviews and objective setting.

  • Conducts training on a group and individual basis on all aspects of the job.

  • This job will also require field work becoming involved in on-site damage issues in an attempt to resolve escalated disputes and will also involve field re-inspections to identify and measure improper scoping, adjusting and pricing practices. Staff ride along will be required.

Qualifications and Education

  • A Bachelors Degree (B.A.) from an accredited four year college or university; OR

  • 5 plus years related experience and/or training which must include homeowner and/or prior supervising of a claim team;

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written skills

  • The ability to function professionally in high volume and or adversarial situations.

  • Claim litigation handling, training and supervisory background while not necessary are ideal.

  • Internal candidates must have strong working knowledge of claims applications including Image Right, STREAM, and the Microsoft Office Suite of products.

  • Experience with Xactware estimating system and Xactanalysis management reporting would be beneficial.
