Quality Manager

Job Description

The highly visible Quality Assurance Manager role is responsible for the quality management system (QMS) ensuring that the system is established, maintained and improved upon. This role requires knowledge of the company, quality tools such as statistical process controls, root cause analysis and FMEA, GMPs, and HACCP.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Daily Quality Activities:
  • Maintain compliance of HACCP and SQF plans.
  • Develop and execute plant monitoring and product testing programs.
  • Develop and execute process control audits with the ability to recognize deviations and initiate corrective actions.
  • Ensure understanding of processing specifications with departments.
  • Resolve quality issues and conduct quality complaint investigations.
  • Use of testing equipment including calipers, ruler, Instron, and any other necessary testing equipment required by customers.
  • Entry of test data into Microsoft Office, SPC software, and/or other customer required documentation system.
  • Provide training to employees for GMPs, Quality Control Processes, HACCP etc.
  • Use SPC to identify negative quality trends and implement corrective actions.
  • As plant SQF practitioner, develop, implement and maintain procedures to maintain compliance to SQF code.
2. Improve Quality Process:
  • Interpret statistical data and apply it to diagnose current quality issues and reduce future quality issues.
  • Develop, coordinate and improve Quality policies for processes in the facility
  • Execute daily product sampling and resolution of any issues
  • Execute process control audits with the ability to recognize deviations
  • Facilitate understanding of processing specifications
  • Resolve quality issues and conduct quality complaint investigations
3. Problem Resolutions:
  • Investigate problem root causes in cooperation with appropriate department.
  • Act as direct point of contact with customers to resolve quality issues.
  • Discuss solutions to product problems in cooperation with other departments and assist with implementation of agreed upon solutions.
  • Maintain quality hold accuracy; identify causes of deviations and initiate corrective actions for defects.
  • Coordinate disposition of retained product in a timely manner

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Strong communication skills with ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, SPC software)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of process improvement techniques and statistical methods.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMP and SQF requirements
  • Ability to use testing equipment (Ruler, calipers, Instron, etc.)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of analytical problem-solving methodologies
  • Knowledge of safety practices in a manufacturing environment
  • BS or BA degree in business or a technical discipline, or relevant experience, and a minimum of 5 years of quality management experience in a manufacturing environment.
