Portfolio Sales Executive


The Portfolio Executive is responsible for growing and retaining a customer portfolio while also executing service delivery to ensure customer commitments are achieved for portfolio of accounts. The Portfolio Executive is the point of sales C.H. Robinson brand ambassador accountable to the customer experience across the life of an order. The Portfolio Executive generates demand and sells diverse services to drive growth through relationship building, problem solving and providing an exceptional customer experience. The Portfolio Executive is a highly competitive existing logo sales role requiring sales persuasion and a sense of urgency. The Portfolio Executive understands the customers daily business challenges and supply chain goals and uses that information to develop tailored consultative solutions that deliver value and support the customers business. The Portfolio Executive drives automation by promoting opportunities where C.H. Robinson technology solutions can add value and improve efficiencies within the customers supply chain.


The duties and responsibilities of this position consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

Service Delivery & Business Development:

  • Generates new business by actively pursuing active accounts by identifying new contacts, product, and service opportunities within portfolio

  • Actively generates demand by frequently contacting the customer using medias including email, phone and in-person to build rapport, understand the customers needs, and execute on business

  • Generates revenue to meet or exceed monthly net revenue goals and expectations

  • Identifies opportunity for growth within the accounts to convert transactional accounts to committed accounts

  • Continuous review of opportunities for order level optimization and consolidation

  • Stays informed of changes within the customers business, industry and sector and applies that knowledge to identify opportunities

  • Interprets and analyzes information to make decisions in a timely manner

  • Reviews internal and customer data for quality and accuracy

  • Understands market conditions and competitive landscape in order to provide efficient and effective modes of transportation solutions for the customer

  • Ensures quality execution against expectations, identifies issues and implements solutions in a timely manner by applying the appropriate sense of urgency

  • Understands and manages pricing strategies through a clear understanding of customer buying habits and C.H. Robinsons position within the customers supply chain

  • Executes upon customer facing operational activities including quoting, load building, shipment activation, and order level service escalations

Customer Service:

  • Uses effective negotiation and sales strategies in discussing pricing and selling services with the customer

  • Establishes contacts and builds relationships at multiple levels, in multiple departments within accounts

  • Partners with customers to gather information on inbound & outbound needs, and offers tailored solutions based on the C.H. Robinson platform in order to build customer relationships and win business

  • Manages conflict and navigates difficult conversations with the customer using tact and diplomacy

  • Conducts monthly account level reviews of margins and volume to gauge profitability of accounts

  • Responds to customer inquiries and provides updates related to exception management to articulate actions being taken

  • Maximizes customer experience by taking a pro-active approach to quality control leveraging internal stand-up meetings and customized external KPI alignment.

  • Cultivates, Creates, and Defines Account Capacity Strategy across all services

  • Collaborates and actively communicates with partners on the capacity/product/supply team regarding customer needs, issues and solutions in order to meet customer expectations

Process Efficiency:

  • Account Onboarding to C.H. Robinson Platform

  • Leverages customer facing technology to ensure the right technology is matched to customer needs

  • Organizes and prioritizes opportunities utilizing sales management tools

  • Understands negotiated payment terms and processes and ensures timely invoicing through monthly reviews

  • Uses internal tools and resources, including but not limited to service line and pricing SMEs, to determine customer pricing strategy

  • Assists in the development of any SOPs required to manage the customers business effectively

  • Maintain a minimum portfolio size of existing customers by volume and revenue

  • Other duties or responsibilities, as assigned, according to the team and/or country specific requirements



  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Ability to travel up to 10% (domestically)


  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum of 1 year of previous sales experience

  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of programs

  • Demonstrated negotiation and sales strategies experience

  • Decision making and multi-tasking skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
