Then come and work for Science and Technology Division as a data engineer for the Government Science Platform! We are expanding our team as we build a modern data platform for our scientists using the latest cloud technologies and machine learning applications.The environmental science we do is complex and challenging but very rewarding - important work usually is.
We generate a lot of data and this role is integral to implementing a new modern data platform that will move the Division towards a more digitally flexible and insights driven future. More about this role:
You will be part of a technical team that actively solves the data and analytics challenges encountered by + environmental scientists and the + products they produce. This role sits at the forefront of government data management and presents a unique opportunity to maximise the value of our multi petabytes of scientific data stores, applying it to enable better environmental science decision-making.
We have the five V's of big data:
* Volume - multi-petabyte stores of data
* Velocity - IoT sensors streaming environmental observations
* Variety - structured databases to audio for identifying frogs
* Veracity - complex environmental models built on data quality and accuracy
* Value - insights for knowledge and environmental decision making
You will collaborate with internal stakeholders to produce high value outcomes that champion not only the FAIR principles of data management but new methods to organise and enhance our data.
You will be able to apply your data engineering skills across a wide variety of science use cases, including opportunities to organise data, to enable better data discovery, analytics and insights for scientists, DES and greater government. This role is part of the team that applies data to influence better environmental outcomes for Queensland.
This position will work closely with the Accelerating Science Delivery Innovation program - a specially funded multi-year initiative working on remediating and modernising at-risk science systems. Please see the attached ASDI Canvas for more details on this activity.
