Resource Consents Planner

Our services are essential to the people in our region and include infrastructure development, community recreational facilities and planning, building and other regulatory services.
The Resource Consents Planner processes resource consent applications (both land use and subdivision), making sound recommendations on decisions in accordance with the requirements of the Resource Management Act and the District Plans (Operative District Plan and Proposed District Plan). These recommendations on decisions must be robust and delivered within the timeframes set under the Act. Other duties include:
Processing new and altered designations and outline plans
Approvals under the Local Government Act, and other Acts as relevant
Attending pre-application meetings
Assisting more senior planners with responding to technical complex queries
Mentoring more junior members of the team
We have two permanent full-time opportunities available, one based in Queenstown and the other opportunity based in Wanaka.
To be the successful candidate, you will hold:
Tertiary degree qualification in planning or related discipline.
Membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute or equivalent, or eligibility for membership.
Significant knowledge and practical application within the planning industry of the Resource Management Act 1991 and allied legislation, in particular those provisions relating to resource consent processes (both land use and subdivision), and implementing a District Plan.
Demonstrated ability to present topics to peers, the public, professionals, at hearings and meetings.
Extensive networks in, and credibility with the stakeholder community.
Excellent oral and written communication skills couples with a motivated and achieve oriented approach.
Have a problem solving mind set and ability to think strategically, pragmatically and outside the box.
