Engineer/Analyst (Future Energy Systems)
About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity for two Engineers or Analysts to join the Future Energy Systems (FES) team. These key roles will provide technical and strategic support in helping the National Electricity Market (NEM) transition towards a low-carbon, highly renewable system that meets the long term interests of consumers. This includes providing technical advice, overseeing power system studies and/or data analysis, and managing projects that improve the design and future operation of the power system. The Future Energy Systems team sits within AEMO’s System Design division, and has accountability for developing the NEM Engineering Framework, and implementing a number of strategic technical projects identified within it. This includes providing a holistic view of the needs of the changing energy system, to prioritise approaches that resolve the most pressing technical issues, and initiate action across industry to enable the NEM to realise the potential to manage % instantaneous penetration of renewables by . Reporting to the Manager, Future Energy Systems (FES), this role can be based across all states. Including offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide & Perth. What you will be doing Support development and delivery of projects to identify, quantify, and resolve the challenges that are emerging in the power system as the generation mix and energy market evolves to greater proportions of inverter-based generation and distributed energy resources. This includes identifying the need for organisational, regulatory, or technical change, and supporting delivery of projects and outcomes to facilitate these changes. Interpret and justify analytical outcomes, draw conclusions, and provide robust recommendations on avenues to resolve emerging challenges in the power system. Supporting internal and external stakeholder engagement and consultations for the work being undertaken. Includes the provision of strategic advice across AEMO, seeking to facilitate an integrated business approach. Facilitate the development of agreed company positions on future technical needs and proposed regulatory changes, working with multi-disciplinary teams to leverage the full range of skillsets across AEMO. Prepare clear, concise and high quality written and verbal communication, including reports and recommendations suitable for the Executive, Board, and external publication, clearly articulating complex technical matters in an accessible way to a broad audience, and presentations to internal and external audiences as appropriate. Effectively manage the delivery of assigned work to agreed timeframes and quality as provided by manager. This includes the delivery of work across multiple concurrent projects, including management of small projects, and to advise on issues that may prevent delivery to senior staff, management and stakeholders. What you will bring to the role Demonstrated ability to manage projects and tasks over a range of power system planning issues. Proven experience preparing high quality technical documentation and reports. Strong ability to analyse, interpret and summarise complex data and reports. Effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). Proactive and self-driven, outcomes focussed in working towards strategic objectives and ability to build and maintain constructive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Ideally you will have experience in the energy industry, with exposure to power system design and operation. Ideally you will have a strong knowledge and understanding of Power System and Electricity Market Systems with the aptitude to apply this knowledge to representative problems and situations.
