A leader in the field of data and engineering, and exceptional technologist, the role will focus on data pipelines and engineering for robust, future-proof solutions that meet Bupa’s strategic motivation to mobilise accurate and timely data for the data community and uplift AI and data science capabilities.
The role will lead a team used to working in an agile model and supporting cross functional data outcomes that ensure that data users across the organisation have access to timely, trusted information to facilitate data science, deliver AI solutions, conduct analytics, and enable reporting that underpins bigger, bolder, better decisions.
Success in this role is about ensuring data is fit for purpose now and in the future, incorporating AI and Machine Learning capabilities; well understood by Bupa’s analytic community; is compliant with relevant legislations and mandates; is available in an accurate, consistent, and timely manner.
How will I help?
The role of the Head of Data engineering will work closely with the Chief Data Officer and technology seniors.
Drive a team of data expert data engineers responsible for building Bupa’s new, best in class, modern data platform and toolkit, and ensure efficient processing, automation and access to data
Identify and adopt new technologies, tools, and best practices to improve data processing, data management, optimisation and utilization.
Manage design, develop, construct, test, optimise data architecture, working closely with the Chief technology and Architecture officer and data technology architects.
Guide and direct the build of scalable and efficient data pipelines.
Recruit and manage a team of elite level data engineers, who understand the value of data and its importance for the business.
Provide ownership, guidance, and direction in implementing the Data Engineering Framework and day-to-day delivery, and a drive to automation.
Work closely with Head of Data Products, Head of AI and Data science, and delivery leaders, to establish robust MLOps approach and capability.
Partner with the Global CoE on engineering simplification and standardisation through standards, patterns, and reusable solutions, emphasising automation.

Profile
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in leading and developing a growing payroll function. You will also have exposure to leading a Payroll team within a similar sized business, whilst maintaining a very hands on approach to business as usual activities.
Other key experience includes:
Ownership of a payroll function from BAU, to compliance and improvement initiatives.
Knowledge of Australia wide Payroll legislation, including multi-state Payroll Tax requirements.
Knowledge of end of month, end of financial year Payroll requirements.
Experience working with and interpreting EBA's.
Experience working with senior leadership across multiple business areas, and desire to build strong internal relationships.
