Registered Midwife - Women's Acute Assessment Unit (WAAU), Nepean Hospital -Perm PT

About the opportunity

The Women's Acute Assessment Unit (WAAU) is a new and innovative model that will be the first of its kind in NSW, providing 24hour a day assessment and care by Specialist Obstetricians/Gynaecologists and Midwives for women experiencing acute/emergency pregnancy complications/concerns at all gestations (including pregnancy loss), reproductive and gynaecology problems, early labour assessment and postpartum complications up to 6 weeks post birth, within the one unit. The WAAU is a purpose built facility within the redevelopment of Nepean Hospital that includes consultation, procedure and scanning rooms in addition to patient holding bays and single rooms supported by 24hr Medical/Midwifery and Administrative staff with access to the Women and Children’s Social Workers.

The midwives working within the WAAU will have the opportunity to gain new skills in caring for women with acute emergency obstetric and gynaecological issues. These skills will include venepuncture, cannulation and speculum accreditation. In addition the midwives will be supported to undertake training in ultrasound scanning to support the Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS). If you are a midwife who would like to work in an Emergency Department environment whilst maintaining your midwifery skills and knowledge and if you have a passion for supporting women during pregnancy loss in a new ground breaking model of care we would love you to join our team.
