Based in the Illawarra, and working within our Project Services Business , an opportunity becomes available for a Project Engineer to join our team. 

About the role

Reporting to the Project Services Operations Manager, the Project Engineer is responsible for planning project work with our site Supervisors, labour coordination, scheduling, cost control, and along with our Workshop Supervisor overseeing our work shop activities and ensuring the most effective use of labour and resources. 

What you'll be doing

Key accountabilities of the position include:

Assist site Supervisors with planning and cost control on projects
Oversee workshop activities and work closely with workshop Supervisor
Ensure compliance with current Acts, Regulations, Policies, Procedures, and applicable Australian Standards
Balance resources to satisfy project and shutdown schedules within the allowed time frame
Improve planning performance by critiquing all components of scheduled outcomes providing relevant Key Performance Indicators
Negotiate with resource providers to develop the most efficient schedule based upon the whole of business needs
Analyse and challenge where appropriate any barriers to providing the best planning, scheduling, and resourcing outcomes that optimise business
Establish and maintain strong working relationships between groups responsible for work identification, planning scheduling, and resourcing
Maintain long-range demand forecast of resources requirements and liaise with subcontractors to meet demand
Ensure that all labour resources are appropriately trained/qualified for the work they are to carry out
Resource coordination for Project Services weekly staff and supervision
Lead projects as required

The Person

You could be someone who has proven experience in a similar role, or alternatively, you could be looking to take the next step in your career. You have worked in construction with estimating experience. 

To be successful in this role the following qualification, skills and experience are required:

Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards (zero harm)
High level of skill and experience in Maintenance and Construction activities
Tertiary and/or Trade qualifications in an applicable discipline (or equivalent)
Knowledge of construction, project, and program controls principles and practices


The ability to develop and maintain good working relationships
Effective planning, organisational and time management skills
Problem solving with solution-focussed outcomes
Sound decision-making skills
Agility to respond and adapt to changing circumstances in the work environment
Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, both face to face and in writing
Proven computer literacy (MS windows, office, outlook)
Experience in the application of computerised maintenance management systems and processes (SAP) would be desirable
