About the role:

C&K Mackay Children and Family Centre are now looking for a passionate Indigenous Community Liaison Officer to support and engage the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Families based in Mackay in the importance of early childhood education and care. This is a newly created position, where you will be responsible in building meaningful and strong relationships & partner with the local community organizations, indigenous groups, and families to improve access and participation of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children and families to enable them to gain access to an early childhood education and care service. This unique opportunity will ensure that indigenous families feel supported, welcome and truly understand the difference early childhood education and care can create in the lives of young children.

You will have the opportunity to make this position your own and work with the Centre Director in ensuring value added engagement in the community to achieve higher enrolments of indigenous family members in joining the C&K family in Mackay.

To be successful in this position, you will be dedicated and passionate about young children achieving an early childhood education and have proven success in meeting objectives, stakeholder management and showing commitment and energy to achieve goals.

You will have established relationships with Indigenous communities in the region through your cultural background and/or extensive experience working with Indigenous people and communities.

Part time Fixed contract commencing in September 2021
3-year contract until 20 December 2024 with a possibility of extension
Working 5 days a week; 4.5 hours a day
Mentor and support educators so they can lead strong culturally sensitive and relevant programs.
Community involvement, building partnership, networking and engaging in the wider community

Key Accountabilities:

Establish and learn early childhood partnerships that already exist within the community
Increase the understanding of the importance of early childhood within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community
Provide a strong Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander presence to support families to feel welcome, where their culture and family is respected.
In establishing strong partnerships, contribute to a shared understanding amongst partners of how the partnership will collaborate and work together
Provide information to organisations, the community and families in relation to C&K's early childhood education and care programs, enrolment, fees, transport options and potential funding available to mitigate potential barriers to accessing the service
Meet all accountability and reporting requirements established through the project plan and governance strategy
Support educators so they can lead strong culturally sensitive and relevant programs.
Share their culture with children to support our future citizens to grow strong and proud.
Support families to access agencies in the community and to work with agencies to promote attendance at the service.
Drive the C&K vehicle to transport families and children as and when needed to access required early childhood and community services
