About the program

StandBy operates nationally by partnering with local organisations, engaging their expertise within the community to deliver the most effective and culturally suitable support following a suicide, for each individual circumstance. Locally tailored community workshops and education programs are provided to increase awareness of suicide and suicide bereavement to help enable communities to support one another.

About the role

Reporting to the Standby - Murray Coordinator, the role of the StandBy Support Worker is responsible for the provision of support to those who have been impacted or bereaved through suicide. This role is an on call position that may require the successful applicant to travel for the support work; including after hours, overnight stays or weekend work.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Respond with person centred support aligned with the StandBy Model in the Murray region. This may include travel across the region as well as service provision inside/outside normal business hours.
Support the StandBy - Murray Coordinator in community development activities which may include assistance at workshops, events and other promotional opportunities.
Support the StandBy - Murray Coordinator as relevant. This includes participating in all scheduled communication processes, supervision, team meetings and professional development.
Ensure accurate data is recorded and submit support session notes in line with StandBy requirements.
Work in a healthy and safe manner and adhere to workplace health and safety policies and procedures.

Skills & Experience

Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications and/or considerable demonstrated knowledge and skills in working with people impacted or bereaved through suicide and/or supporting those impacted by trauma and grief.
Demonstrated, well developed interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Experience and skills in person centred, trauma informed, crisis support, and self-care practices.
