You'll be responsible for managing a high-performing team that executes all people-related activities that aim to find, organise, develop, motivate and retain our talent. You will act as a champion for the company culture while working closely with and supporting teams and team leads.This full-time role is based at our De Waterkant office in Cape Town, but will be full-remote friendly.What you'll doCore responsibilities:Ensure our recruitment process selects for exceptional people who stay at RootRoot uses best-in-class recruitment tools, tactics, systems and processes.Supporting our talent acquisition team to be able to attract top talent.Root proactively finds, engages and hires the best talent to fill high-impact roles, with speed.Make Root's employee value proposition competitive, clear and to attract inbound talent.Create a work environment where our team loves to come to work every dayTeams feeling challenged to do their best work.The Root culture and ways of working are adopted, preached and practiced.Wellness being supported and promoted in the team.Providing a comfortable work environment, both remote and in the office, to allow our teams to deliver their best work.Ensure an organisational structures that allows for optimal ways of working and collaboration as we scaleThe People Ops team striving to become a trusted function by promoting an integrated work environmentContinually and collectively designing scalable organisational and team structures and systemsHelp to continuously leveling up our leaders and our teamDeveloping and growing our leaders internally through programs and systems.Providing transparent systems and tools to support team growth and development.Providing mentoring and coaching to first-time Team Leads.Ensure a seamless journey from onboarding to exitRecruitment and onboarding.Performance management.Compensation and rewards.Team relations and team events.People development.We're looking for someone withCore requirements to perform responsibilities:Bachelors degree - Organisational Psychology is advantageous.7+ years in a people-oriented role and 3+ years leading a team.Experience growing a People function in a fast-paced startup environment (bonus: part of scaling a team from 50 to people).Experience in recruitment, ideally for tech roles.Experience building out and implementing training & development programs.Experience and aptitude to deal with employee relations issues.Data-driven orientation.Prefers tools and automation when it matters and is appropriate.Experience in change management.An empathetic, people-oriented leader, both for their own team and to partner with other leaders across the business.Being process-oriented and with an understanding of the impact and possible divergence of processes and people.An exceptional listener and communicator.Able to embrace and actively seek diversity and understand its value.An awareness of cultural, racial, gender, disability and other biases.Able to easily pick up on nuances, intonations and undertone.Business acumen and ability to grasp business strategy and how functions interlink and are interdependent.Forward thinking and looking with the ability to understand the longer-term impact of decisions.Adopts a growth mindset and encourages others to do the same.Who we areOur mission is to enable innovation in insurance by building the infrastructure required to reach the future of insurance.
