About the role The buyer is responsible for actively participating in the strategic sourcing activities for the business unit of the SSA Ingredients and flavours business with the goal of achieving significant initial cost reductions, while maintaining and improving product quality and vendor service levels. Work Location: Hillcrest (Durban) Key responsibilities Purchase materials in-line with special cost, quality, and delivery targets Support the purchasing function and other relevant departments and communicate any supply problems which may impact business operations Act as an interface between suppliers and other relevant departments on purchasing processes, projects Perform assessment activities such as monitoring market trends, competitors strategies and markets Negotiate contracts, improve pricing and terms of purchase with suppliers and review new opportunities to make business savings Track and analyse performance within each spend category and define budgetary impact on technology and/or country P&L. Assist with / lead vendor selection and negotiation process for regional vendors Recruit and maintain suppliers who will provide high quality products and services at a better price while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct Collaborate cross-functionally in the region to implement category-sourcing initiatives Perform end-to-end activities relevant to procurement of assigned Category Negotiate complex requests for materials Ensure categories are contracted in line with the sourcing strategy to avoid maverick buying Ensure master agreements are properly codified into local contracts for the region Prepare and issue purchase contracts and change notices Prepare and review contracts, bids, proposals and vendor agreements for legal correctness, price and acceptability of items to specifications Review and resolve vendor claims and contracts for conformance to company policy Monitor procurement reporting systems to meet company requirements Qualifications and skills Relevant Qualification BCom/ BTech/Supply Chain Degree Minimum of 5 years relevant successful track record working within the Manufacturing Industry in Procurement Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel Passion for reducing costs and a track record of success in this area. Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills (multiple complex analyses simultaneously). Good planning and project management skills. Strong negotiating skills Skills in cost controlling and general financial reporting principles
