We are searching for a Campaigns Strategist in South Africa to join our campaigns team. The Campaigns Strategist willwork closely with The Change.org Foundation , a global non-profit for people-powered change. The Foundation creates positive impact in some of the worlds most marginalised communities through programs, research, and partnerships for citizen-led campaigning.Our programs aim to empower citizens and support grassroots-led social movements in Asia and Africa by combining the digital reach and accessibility of Change.org with targeted support from our team of experienced campaign and movement-building experts. In , the Foundation launched She Creates Change training a community of over women campaigners leading to petitions, 12 million signatures and 48 policy shaping victories. The programme has successfully completed its pilot phase in India, Indonesia, Nigeria, and we aim to further expand it to South Africa. In , the Change.org Foundation will build on its experience of the She Creates Change program and launch We Create Change, a transformative training program that enables emerging civic leaders from marginalised communities to create deep social impact, with access to skills, leadership training, and community support. A program where citizen-led social change philosophy meets practical change.org petition creation and campaigning expertise. The Campaigns Strategist role will support all the campaigns that emerge from these programmes to start and drive their campaigns towards victory. We are looking for a Campaigns Strategist with an in-depth understanding of Social Justice issues in South Africa who will bring together campaigns strategy and digital campaigning to actively support trained changemakers by assessing the issues they want to petition on and giving them strategic support and direction on how to craft and escalate high impact and targeted campaigns. You will be based out of Johannesburg and report to our Senior Campaigner. We are however open to folks located in other parts of South Africa applying as the role will be remote for the foreseeable future.This exciting role mixes coaching,digital campaigning, email engagement, and grassroots outreach to help trained changemakers win campaigns.Your work priorities would include: Campaign research on every campaign resulting in a clear understanding of power and leverage points needed to win each individual campaign, the potential pitfalls, and the opportunity window for launching and running campaigns. Targeted research enabling you to quickly and efficiently move from idea to action.Supporting changemakers to start digital campaigns, including rapid response campaigns, using social listening tools, effectively evaluating well-researched ideas for their potential impact through email and media tactics, and seizing the best opportunity windows to escalate campaigns.Campaign strategy which includes messaging and innovative tactics laid out with clear timelines, ownership, and back-up plans.Working with the Country Director and Senior Campaigner to support changemaker campaigns by facilitating meetings with decision makers.Supporting The Change.org Foundation training team in meeting the program's learning outcomes by: Working closely with the program coordinator & regional training manager, Africa to ensure that there is a healthy mix of changemaker campaigns emerging from the alumni of the training programmesSupporting the regional training manager in planning and delivering skills-based sessions on digital campaigning for the training programmesProvide inputs to design skills-related content for training programmesEnsuring that all campaigns emerging from the training programme alumni are supported and have received strategic inputOverall responsibility of ensuring campaign quality and impact from the training programme alumni The ideal candidate would have a strong mix (ideally all) of the following: A deep commitment to our mission of empowering people everywhere, especially those from marginalised communities, to win campaigns on the issues that matter to them.You have extensive experience in owning the development and execution of campaign strategy, including power and media mapping an issue.Being strategic with innovative ideas for how to use digital campaigning tools to win local and national social change campaigns both in depth and at scale.Extremely proficient written and oral communication skills.Demonstrated skills or experience in writing for an online audience, including call-to-action emails as well as the related email list management and data analysis.A deep understanding of media messaging and experience in working with media on complex issues.Social media skills - experience in online community management or in using a variety of social media tools to engage an online audience. An agile skill set and attitude, enjoy talking to changemakers from diverse backgrounds and multitasking while working on a range of campaign issues. A deep grasp of politics, the political process and current social justice issues in South Africa, continentally and globally.A willingness to take risks, fail, adapt and learn.
