The position can be located at any Expeditors branch officein Europe or the Middle East, but a location in one of our offices in India is preferred.Job DescriptionThe Assistant Corporate Counsel will join a world-class legal department, devote 80% of time toproviding advice and strategies on labor and employment matters in Europe, the Middle East, Africa,and India, and devote 20% of time to assisting with global regulatory and compliance matters.Primary responsibilities include:Supporting and advising business teams, including executives, managers, employee relations,information services, and operations regarding compliance with existing and forthcominglabor and employment laws and regulationsAdvising on issues such as discipline, non-competition, redundancies, leave, disability,contingent workers, equity, contractor management, occupational health and safety, antidiscrimination,wage and hour, and union/labor relationsManaging litigation, outside counsel, and budgetsProviding representation and/or management of matters before human rights tribunals andagenciesConducting and managing internal investigationsResponding to governmental subpoenas, investigations, and auditsDrafting and revising employment policies, standards, and internal work regulationsDrafting service provider, commission, non-compete, employment, and settlementagreementsDeveloping and delivering client training on compliance with labor and employment lawsLeading responses to governmental inquiries into employment/labor related mattersPerforming project management work for legal projectsFormulating efficient resolution strategies to meet business objectivesProviding effective cross-functional support inside and outside of the legal departmentAssisting in developing and implementing departmental goals and initiativesTravel: Expected 5% to 15%; Valid passport/authorized to travel internationallyQualificationsJuris Doctorate, Bachelor of Laws, or equivalent degree in LawsLicensed/authorized to practice law in jurisdiction in the US, the jurisdiction where thecandidate will be based or in any jurisdiction within the Europe and MAIR regions, in goodstanding3-5 years of experience in a top law firm preferredIn-house experience working in the law department of a Fortune company highlydesirable, but not requiredStrong knowledge of, and practical experience advising on labor and employment laws andregulationsWorking knowledge of U.S. labor and employment laws and regulations preferred, working knowledge of international labor laws and regulations desiredPractical experience working with trade unions preferredExperience in logistics, transport and related sectors preferredStrong analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skillsExcellent organizational skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracyExcellent business judgment and ability to work independentlyFluent oral and written English required.
