Biosafety Advisor and Team Deputy

Our client, based in Harpenden, are currently seeking a Biosafety Advisor and Team Deputy to join their Health, Safety and Biosafety Team who will provide expertise and advice on all matters relating to Health, Safety, Biosafety & Biosecurity.


Do you have a degree or equivalent experience in a biological science subject?

Do you have a scientific research background, preferably in a biological subject such as microbiology, infectious disease or molecular biology?

Do you have knowledge in Biological Safety principles and practises?

If so, this could be the role for you!


The role is full time, with a renewable fixed term of 3 years.


Overview of the position:

This position will implement a comprehensive health, safety and biosafety program to support scientific research.

You will give guidance as appropriate and monitor compliance.

The position will have responsibility for assessing and mitigating risks pertaining to infectious agents and biological toxins; training laboratory personnel in safety principles; acting as secretary and advisor to the Biosafety Committee and undertaking a programme of inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and best practice.

TheBiosafety Advisor and Team Deputymay also be required to liaise with various governing authorities, acting as the point of contact and host.

You will perform a diverse range of tasks, supporting risk and compliance within laboratory areas, growth facilities, agricultural facilities and workshops.

Much experience lies within the current team and this is an excellent opportunity to further develop Health, Safety and Biosafety specific skills in a supportive, yet challenging environment.


The ideal applicant will have:

Knowledge of containment standards and engineering

Strong oral and written communication skills, and good interpersonal skills.

A good working knowledge of Biosafety and Health and Safety, and experience of working in regulatory framework is desirable

Ability to take clear, concise and accurate minutes of meetings (and follow up on action points as appropriate)

Ability to exercise discretion and handle confidential or sensitive information
