Assistant Buyer

Robertson Recruitment has been appointed by one of the biggest specialist retailers in the UK in placing an Assistant Buyer for their Head Office in Nottingham. They are looking for a pro-active and hands on Assistant Buyer to work within an established Buying Team and be responsible for supporting the Purchasing team to help expedite orders with suppliers and provide information to the sales team.

Assistant Buyer duties and responsibilities:

  • Liaising with new and existing suppliers
  • Assist with the control of purchasing products, capital and non-capital lines and consumables and expediting orders once placed
  • Liaising with Internal departments to ensure that all new suppliers have an approved status, prior to placement of orders
  • Liaising with all sales functions to ensure stock fulfilment is completed on a timely basis, or suitable replacements sourced
  • Processing all invoices in a timely manner and arranging payment with relevant departments
  • Producing ad hoc reports as required by the Buying Manager
  • Sourcing new product in conjunction with the buying team
  • Providing support to stores for ad-hoc purchasing of non-catalogue lines, or for special build items
  • Development of new systems, work practices and controls with the Buying Manager
  • Occasional travel will be required
  • On occasions overnight stays will be required
  • Maintaining good housekeeping practices in all areas of responsibility
  • Reporting to senior personnel any breach of security or any act of dishonesty by a member of the public, visitor or member of staff
  • Any other reasonable duties as required

Assistant Buyer skills and experience:

  • Relevant experience in assisting the Buying Team in sourcing and purchasing of electrical and hardware tools in retail background is highly advantageous
  • Strong admin and negotiation skills and strategic approach in managing global and local suppliers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with team members, clients and suppliers
  • Ability to work independently, display initiative and solve problems with proficiency

Assistant Buyer benefits:

  • Competitive salary between £23,000 to £26,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
