Job Description

Please note this is a full time position, working a shift pattern of24/5 shift pattern which consists of 12 hour shifts alternating between days and nights, on a 3 week cycle, which are07:00 to 19:00 and 19:00 to 07:00 Monday to Friday.

We are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and innovative Pilot Plant Chemist in Drug Substance Manufacturing. The Pilot Plant Chemist works a 24/5 shift pattern which consists of 12 hour shifts alternating between days and nights, on a 3 week cycle. The role includes all aspects of operating a modern Pilot Plant facility, following detailed GMP batch instructions to complete tasks such as solids and liquids charging, reaction monitoring, reaction work-ups, crystallisations and waste management. The role also involves GMP in-process analysis using techniques such as HPLC, KF and GC to monitor the progress and success of on-going reactions. These are new and exciting opportunities based at our clients facility, a world class Pharmaceutical company based in Macclesfield. We have opportunities for an experienced Pilot Plant Chemist with at least 1 years' experience within the pharmaceutical or similar industry.

The ideal candidate will be extremely motivated and willing to learn new processes to allow them to operate safely and compliantly in the clients facility and will have a proven history of being able to work accurately and both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Strong technical, problem solving skills, an ability to think logically and having previous experience of operating in a hands-on manufacturing plant is a requirement. Qualifications

Education / Experience / Skills

  • At a minimum a good 2nd class honours degree, MSc, MChem or equivalent in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry. The degree course must contain a significant number of organic chemistry modules if it isnt a straight chemistry degree.
  • A sound, fundamental knowledge of Chemistry and analytical science is essential.
  • Previous Pilot Plant knowledge and experience within a pharmaceutical/chemical manufacturing facility is strongly desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of techniques such as HPLC, GC, Karl Fisher and UPLC within a GMP environment is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience of drug substance analysis, is an advantage.
  • An understanding of the drug development process would be desirable.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot issues relating to instrumentation and analysis as required.
  • Proven ability to investigate questionable/ OOS results and providing support for pilot plant investigations as required.
  • Good understanding of requirements for working in a GMP environment.
  • Ability to quickly learn new processes.
  • Ability to work using fully electronic media, including MS Office.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and to form strong working relationships with colleagues.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and be capable of developing solutions to problems as part of a team.
  • Willing to operate in a flexible manner and be able to switch priorities at short notice.
  • Good team player, organised, accurate, have strong documentation skills.
  • Passionate about quality and customer service.
  • Enjoys the challenges of working in a fast paced and changing environment.
  • Ability to prioritise, manage time and handle a diverse workload.
