We have an exciting opportunity at our Prison service HMP Haverigg in Cumbria where you will join our friendly and inspiring team as an IAPT Counsellor. Your role will be a permanent position working full-time, 37.5 hours per week, based in the service. You will need to be able to work flexibly as you will be working Monday to Friday.

The Prisons and Criminal Justice Leadership team design, develop and deliver contracts for those affected by Mental Health in Prisons and Criminal Justice Settings. This includes providing structured mental health support within prisons, health and wellbeing support to those engaging with Probation Services, and Mental Health Care Navigation services for those leaving secure settings. The services are delivered alongside a range of partners, including NHS Trusts, National Probation Services, Her Majestys Prison and Probation Services, Charity Sector Organisations, Private Healthcare Organisations and Community Organisations amongst others.

What will you be doing?

You will be supporting someone in their daily activities and helping them lead a fulfilling life, this can involve things like:

- Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service. I make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary; or steps-up the persons treatment to high intensity
- Assess and support people with mental health problems
- Undertake person-centred interviews identifying areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery, identifying goals for counselling
- Formulate implement and evaluate counselling therapy programmes and care packages for clients
- Work in partnership with other disciplines and to maintain links with statutory and non-statutory agencies as appropriate, in relation to continuing care on release from prison
- Produce reports on clients in a timely manner that convey the key findings of the psychological intervention in a way that does justice to the complexity of the problems described, but that are understandable to the recipients of the reports, including clients and referrers

Do you have what we are looking for?

- Successfully completed a diploma in Counselling (therapeutic) or equivalent that allows access to training programmes and accreditation with a regulating body, e.g BACP
- Post-qualification experience in offering and delivering counselling in IAPT setting
- Evidence of working within a stepped care service with people who have experienced a mental health problem delivering and demonstrating recovery outcomes
- Knowledge of assessment procedures, screening, referral, record-keeping and evidence-based brief psychological interventions
- Demonstrate an understanding use of IAPT counselling and how this relates to this post
