Teaching Assistant

Our client is looking for an enthusiastic and committed Higher Level Teaching Assistant to support a young person with a range of specific and complex educational needs in a school in Stockport. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to develop their knowledge of special education needs and the post-holder will be well supported by members of the multidisciplinary team.

About the role
The young person has cerebral palsy and has complex physical needs but is cognitively able. As well as being an enthusiastic, highly motivated learner, the young person is an effective Eye Gaze user and is reliant on assistive technology and adult support to complete all tasks. The successful applicant for Higher Level Teaching Assistant role will:

  • Work with teachers on lesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lesson/work plans
  • Assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of learning programmes
  • Establish productive working relationships with the student
  • Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and acknowledge achievement
  • Be responsible for keeping and updating records with teachers and other staff

You will be given a significant amount of training and guidance to enhance skills in the use of assistive technology, communication and specialist teaching approaches and you’ll have a chance to work alongside highly specialist teachers, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists.

About you
To be successful for the role of Higher Level Teaching Assistant you must have / be:

  • A good standard of education
  • A Higher Level Teaching Assistant or equivalent qualification and/or experience of working with children and young people within the age range and with SEND is essential
  • Able to communicate effectively with colleagues and others
  • Able to understand the needs of a young person and meet those needs in a planned way
  • Knowledge of Child Protection
  • Willingness to undertake all training provided

About the salary and hours
The role of Higher Level Teaching Assistant is a permanent post whilst the student completes Year 11 in the school and it will be continued into Post 16 education for at least two more years. Ongoing support Post 19 would be likely.

The hours of work are 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, term time only, worked in accordance with service requirements. There is a salary on offer of £21,000 to £24,000 per annum, pro rata and is 46 out of 52 weeks.
