Optical Assistant

An exciting position has become available for a part-time Optical Assistant based in East Kilbride. The candidate will earn up to £10.00 per hour dependent on level of experience.

The Optical Assistant is a support role assisting the Optometrist and/or Dispensing Optician. Previous experience in an optical retail environment is essential for this role. Working alongside the Optometrist the successful candidate will provide information to customers and help them select the best products and services to ensure they look and feel their best self. Secondly, the candidate will keep up-to-date with all the various new lines and promotions within the practice, ensuring customers are provided with the most up-to-date information. The Optical Assistant plays a very important part within the team.

This is not just an administrative or reception role nor is it purely sales. There is a lot of background optical knowledge, experience required to be able to fit into this new role. We do offer on-site training and have clear operational standards to work to. The database and ordering system is very intuitive and quick to learn.

  • Attention to detail; reviews prescriptions and identifies special needs, consulting with an Optician when necessary, for advice.

Role Responsibilities

  • Deliver excellent customer service and demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Achieve high levels of sales performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of our products to recommend the best medical solution/device.
  • Ensure store stock is displayed effectively, hygienically and products and equipment are secured according to Company guidelines
  • Accurately operate the POS system and accounts for all transactions (cash, credit, returns)
  • Perform work accurately and thoroughly despite time pressure and customer volume, whilst maintaining a friendly and professional attitude.
  • Identify situations involving unsatisfied customers and act quickly for resolution, keeping notes to convey effective handovers between staff.
  • Assists the customer in selecting frames and lenses that are best suited for their lifestyle and prescription needs.
  • Being proactive in keeping up to date with operational standards and training modules to further their knowledge.
  • Assist with contact lenses and dispensing glasses.
  • Adhering to government infection control procedures.


Optomeyes Opticians was established in 1999 and has built and vast and loyal patient base serving families throughout their generations. We know have a happy buzzing community practice with a great rapport with the local patients.

The practice feels this is due to the personal service available to all patients due to the smaller size of the practice. We believe in employing very competent Optometrists with adequate test time given to each examination dependent on the needs. We also have some state of the art testing equipment to make for a very thorough eye examination.
