Grants Manager

Wehave an exciting opportunityavailable for a Grants Manager (Post Award) to join our team. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis and in return, you will receive a competitive salary circa £35,000 per annum, with benefits, subject to skills and experience.

We are seeking a Grants Manager (Post Award) to provide comprehensive post award financial management and administrative support to ensure that Group Leaders and Researchers receive prompt advice and an efficient service from the point of award acceptance and project set up, to financial monitoring/reporting, management of financial budgets, final claim, project reconciliation, closure and preparation for any internal and external audits.

Responsibilities of our Grants Manager (Post Award) will include:

  • Being responsible for the post award administrative and financial management of a varied portfolio of research grants and others as required.
  • Providing a single point of contact for internal and external enquiries relating to their portfolio, from funders, Group Leaders, Service Delivery Partners, and ensuring that they are recorded and acted upon in a timely and effective manner or escalated as appropriate
  • Supporting Group Leaders with regards to the planning and preparation of budget plans and providing guidance in relation to the eligibility of expenditure in relation to funders terms and conditions.
  • Working closely with the Human Resources Team with regards to the approval process of staff to individual projects, paying particular attention to budget control and compliance to funders terms and conditions.
  • Regularly reviewing projects to monitor budgets, income and expenditure and ensure early identification of significant variances [budget under / overspends, ineligible costs, overhead recovery etc.]. Liaise with Group Leaders over any variances and potential financial problems and provide advice on how to resolve. Provide forecasts against funds remaining,
  • Preparing interim and final claims for expenditure, within set deadlines, ensuring good cash flow on projects.
  • Producing routine and customised financial reports for budget holders and other colleagues incorporating funders terms and conditions and to be able to explain accounting and financial concepts to non-finance staff
  • Maintaining a detailed knowledge of funder terms and conditions as well as internal financial procedures and regulations, and apply these consistently, and in particular with regard to financial returns.
  • Managing the distribution of grant funds in relation to Collaborative Research Agreements where the Institute is the coordinating institution.
  • Liaising with funders with regards to any requests for amendments, extensions or virements, in liaison with the Senior Grants Manager (Operations).
  • Maintaining robust record keeping systems including Timesheets (to comply with institute, funder and audit requirements).
  • Assistance with regards to project and institute audits.

Skills and experience we are looking for in our Grants Manager (Post Award):

  • Sound knowledge and experience in Grant Management
  • Ability to work independently and also capable of interacting within a group
  • An excellent knowledge and practical experience of financial accounting and administration
  • Be highly numerate, and use key software packages including MS Excel and Workday (or other equivalent software)
  • You will have awareness and proven professional experience of post award grant management in either a HEI or comparable sector
  • An excellent communicator, you will be proficient in time management, meticulous attention to detail, work well under pressure and have proven organisational skills
  • This is an ever changing and challenging environment and we will require someone with a high degree of competency in both numeracy and general administrative skills to build on the development of the service and to support any future changes
