Company Accountant

The role

Our client is a leading supplier of responsibly sourced household products. It is looking for an experienced Company Accountant to report into the Directors and take responsibility for the financial health of the business (turnover circa £5 million) and the reporting and recommendations it requires.

Duties will include:

  • Supervising a part time Purchase Ledger Clerk and a part time Sales Ledger Clerk
  • Managing cashflow and forecasting
  • Management Accounts, preparation of budgets and cashflow forecasts
  • Preparation of the annual financial statements
  • Supporting the external auditors in the review and completion of statutory accounts
  • Reviewing the company’s fixed assets
  • Complete and submit VAT and PAYE returns and payments
  • Submitting UK corporation tax returns and payments on account in line with HMRC timetables
  • Bank and general ledger reconciliations
  • Credit Control
  • Payroll
  • Invoicing, POs

The person

  • Previous relevant experience in a varied role as a Company Accountant/Management Accountant/Finance Manager
  • AAT/ACCA/CIMA qualifications are highly advantageous but QBE with proven experience will also be considered
  • A hands-on approach and understanding of the nature of an SME business
  • Ability to partner with the business and influence stakeholders
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to interpret financials into meaningful business recommendations
  • Strong management accounts and P&L, Forecasting experience
  • Experience with processing payroll and credit control
  • Great IT skills including confidence using Excel
  • High attention to detail and a methodical approach

The salary

£38,000 - £40,000 plus pension, private health insurance, 24 days holiday plus additional days at Christmas

Hours 8.30am – 5pm or 9am – 5.30pm (hybrid working)
