Deputy Site Manager/ Health & Safety

Mech Tech Professionals are actively recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer/ Deputy Site Manager for our Industrial services client.

This role is based on a 12 week temporary contract

The objective of the role will be to ensure the Health and Safety of multi-disciplined teams using demonstrable knowledge and experience gained from operating within a heavy industrial sector.

We are looking for a positive and inspirational leader who can actively engage with the site teams and the Client to enhance the productivity of our services to industry utilising skill and experience in motivating the workforce in a cost and time effective manner, while maintaining our quality and safety control standards to ISO 45001.

The main responsibilities of the role will include the following:

  • Ensure the safe and efficient management of resource through the highest standards and involvement of all members of the companys team. Maintaining client relationships, developing further business opportunities and sales
  • Ensure health and safety is placed ahead of output or customer demands at all times.
  • Support the Site Manager in delivery of the companys Site H&S plan with support from the H&S Manager. Audit safe systems of work, job method statements and maintain review registers
  • Manage and constantly be aware of compliance with applicable regulations, legislations and standards e.g., HSAWA, COMAH, LOLER, PUWER, ISO 45001, ISO 9001. Ensure the companys compliance to contract and any additional requests are approved in writing prior to start or supply
  • Deputise for the Site Manager during periods of absence, to ensure client continuity and progression of daily activities
  • Provide technical advice, to team and client, including maintaining and modifying equipment to ensure that it is safe, reliable and efficient.
  • Liaising with management, suppliers and the Clients in a supportive and diplomatic manner and provide technical expertise and advice
  • Assess and manage project requirements, writing reports and documentation, analysing and interpreting data as required. Checking and preparing site reports, designs and drawings, maintaining quality control procedures
  • Manage, prepare, audit and action safety improvement plans and highlight any potential for performance improvements and increased service life
  • Lead and oversee the direction of in-house projects, ensuring that the clients specifications and requirements are met, reviewing progress and monitoring costs. Finding ways to prevent problems and problem solving, assessing and minimising risk
  • Lead supervisors and teams to ensure effective meetings and handover processes are in place and monitored, identifying and addressing any training requirements, attend any required individual training
  • Manage Mechanical skills sets, training and competency of staff and supervision to facilitate customer contract requirement
  • Ensure Company rules and procedures are adhered to, as per the companys handbook
  • Ensure personnel are employed with the correct required skills
  • Set up rotas, shift patterns etc. for best utilisation of task and as per customer requirements
  • Coordinate and supervise work, selecting tools and materials, and have the ability to deploy manpower.
  • Ensure effective performance management, absence management, timekeeping and control employee turnover, carrying out any disciplinary actions as required.
  • Monitor, audit and control key KPI's for Health and Safety, Environmental, Productivity, Service, Quality Management System, Housekeeping and Cost
  • Attend customer weekly and operations meeting and work with the office team to ensure operational requirements are met. Ensure meetings are notarised and communicated to all relevant parties
  • Ensure KPI, tracker sheets, reports, variations, technical queries, training matrix, handover sheets and other required documentation is completed to time and required standards. Ensure the appropriate records are maintained; paper based and electronic
  • Implement and manage stock usage systems for mechanical parts, correct storage and tracking systems.
  • Ensure loss investigations are held into all sources of downtime and recorded with the Client, with root cause solutions put in place to prevent recurrence
  • Monitor and control expenditure, material usage and comply with authorisation processes for overtime, timesheets, sign offs, purchase orders etc
  • Attend site outside normal working hours when requested by the Client

To be considered for this position, it is essential that you hold the following qualifications, skills and experience

  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering
  • NEBOSH qualified
  • Experienced site Mechanical Engineer from the steel industry or an established high-quality industry or background
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Management systems
  • Good communication skills are essential along with a "can do" attitude
  • We require a good balance of management skills along with strong technical/engineering experience
  • Motivating and driving the workforce in a productive and time effective manner
  • Good time management skills
  • Knowledge of Best Practice Safe Work Methods
Rate of pay is dependable on experience and open to discussion
