Planner Construction

My client are a £250m t/o Construction contractor specialising within the new build, fit-out and refurbishment sectors. They are now looking for an experienced Planner to help support the group during this period of strategic growth. This is an opportunity that can offer serious career progression within the next 5 years.

This is a role that will give you genuine strategic input across projects with multiple clients within the public and private sectors.

Key Responsibilities include;

  • Provide pre-tender advice to client / client representatives with regard to programming and method.
  • Provide planning assistance for the preparation of pre-qualification submissions.
  • Attend Tender Launch Meeting to agree tender strategy.
  • Upon decision to tender;
    • Review project specific Tender Submission Requirements / Deliverables.
    • Liaise with Client's Representative on technical queries and requests for information.
    • Carry out site visits, ensuring adequate photos are taken during the site visit and ensure discussions are held with the Building Manager.
    • Establish the requirement of any plant requirements (hoist / scaffold / crane) and ensure quotes and method statements are obtained.
    • Establish the requirement for statutory fees (building control / section 20 / hoarding licence / planning / road closure etc.) and ensure quotes are obtained.
    • During the tender period, where possible and relevant, visit the employers design team to discuss method and sequence to gain a better understanding of the project and the employer's main objectives.
    • Contact key subcontractors to discuss proposed method, sequence, lead-in requirements, alternatives, innovation, key issues and on site periods.
    • Identify areas of risk associated with the method and sequence of the works.
    • Identify areas of value engineering associated with the method and sequence of the works.
    • Prepare a method statement to support the tender programme detailing method and sequence. Where possible submit graphical illustrations to enhance the methods statement.

The successful candidates will have the following skills and experience:-

  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrable construction and/or fit-out and refurbishment experience; previous experience may be on site or within an office in an operational or planning role but a clear and demonstratable awareness of the process is essential.
  • Have a clear understanding to various procurement routes and the implications of design responsibility.
  • Planning and programming skills are required; experience at having prepared programmes for live interiors projects or tenders is essential with Asta programming software experience preferred.
