Health and Safety Manager

Responsible To: Head of People & Organisational Development

Purpose of the Role

As our Health & Safety Manager you will have overall responsibility to the Director of Business Transformation for employee Health & Safety. You will be responsible for developing the safety culture for all our colleagues and contractors so we continually improve our approach to Health and Safety and Risk Management.

Youll maintain and develop our commitment to Health and Safety and Risk Management, through a proactive approach that will involve regular liaising with the Leadership Team, staff training and promotion of awareness.

Youll make sure we are fully compliant with Health and Safety legislation and guidance and policies at all times providing evidence and keeping us at the forefront of changes within Health & Safety legislation.

What we are looking for:

Extensive experience of Health & Safety management and auditing.

Experience of managing a team of staff and ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of excellent customer focused services.

Experience of implementing and managing Performance Management Systems.

An Institute of Occupational Health and Safety qualification or NEBOSH Diploma.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work.

Specific Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Ensuring compliance

You will be Health & Safety competent person as required by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

To ensure managers, officers and contractors who act in CDM specific roles of Client, Principal Designer, Designer and Principal Contractor receive the leadership and advice to ensure compliance with CDM 2015.

To regularly review and monitor the Health and Safety Policy in line with legislation and make recommendations for improvement as necessary.

To advise the Leadership Team of any proposed changes to health and safety legislation which may have an impact upon the Association and to make recommendations where appropriate.

To liaise as required with the Health and Safety Executive and any other external bodies to ensure the Association is in compliance with health and safety requirements.

To monitor and report all non-compliance with Health and Safety regulations and best practice and to make recommendations to the relevant senior manager which will ensure compliance.

To approve the appropriate level of awareness of health and safety issues across the Association through Health and Safety Training and manage the process of ensuring relevant training courses are delivered in liaison with the Head of People & Organisational Development.

Promoting a culture of Health & Safety

Work with the Board, Leadership Team and Senior Managers to ensure that Health and Safety is a core priority within the organisation and that a positive culture is built throughout.

Work proactively with managers and other key staff to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of Health and Safety within their areas of responsibility, which includes conducting regular audits.

To manage, develop, and implement and monitor health and safety strategies, policies and programmes with the aim of improving the management of health and safety throughout.

To provide an efficient and effective professional health and safety service in accordance with the Associations policies, procedures and best practice and make recommendations for improvements as necessary.

To provide advice and guidance to Line Managers responsible for risk assessments, identify the hazards and risk associated with the workplace and to approve the measures implemented to protect persons from such risks.

To develop, monitor, and maintain statutory and non-statutory policies and procedures relating to health and safety and ensure that appropriate information is displayed.

To manage the process of regular, scheduled health and safety inspections are carried out of the Associations offices, sheltered accommodation sites and premises and to liaise with the Associations recognised trade union, as appropriate.


Support the delivery of the Corporate Strategy, Vision and Mission, and to promote the values and conduct of the association.
