The Safety, Health & Environmental Officer position based at Thirsk is offering £25,000 - £30,000 basic salary plus benefits for the successful candidate. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8am until 4pm (flexible), 37.5 hours per week.
Our client is an established manufacturing business based near Thirsk. They are now recruiting for an experienced Safety, Health & Environmental Officer.The primary objective of the role is to manage the development and co-ordination of safety, health and environment management systems and processes to meet our clients business objectives with the purpose of achieving excellent standards.
Our client is committed to conducting all of its activities in a manner which promotes the highest possible standards of Safety, Health and Environmental performance. A high level of occupational safety and health performance must be maintained and continuously improved to meet our clients policy requirements. The manufacturing facility is manually intensive which leads to the need for a large focus on behavioural safety.The Safety, Health & Environmental Officer, therefore needs to balance the needs of hands on, operational SHE with that of the systems, and legislative elements.
Safety, Health & Environmental Officer Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
1.Develop the effectiveness of site safety programmes.
Help Site Management Team to maintain and continually improve compliance with safety regulations set.
Establish and develop the near miss and hazard reporting system.
Facilitate the site management audit programme.
Help SHE Advisor to complete investigations and corrective action completion and effectiveness.
Support the manufacturing management team in risk assessment plans, audits and action plans.
Coordinate the communication and understanding of the SHE policy, programmes and systems.
2.Coordinate and administer the site SHE Improvement Plan.
Monitor progress against plan and support managers in completion of tasks.
Monitor performance of internal SHE targets agreed.
Agree and deliver SHE performance and house keeping improvements in line with company targets and legal obligations.
3.Complete all SHE reporting requirements, internally and externally in a comprehensive and timely way, so that informed business decisions can be made.
Facilitate SHE Advisor with monthly report data.
Respond to requests for information from Site Management Team.
Prepare relevant submission to external agencies.
4.Ensure that all SHE documentation and training records are current and properly recorded in line with business.
With Safety Advisor and Production Managers, facilitate the implementation of safety training courses and plans for employees to ensure all staff develop and maintain a high level of safety awareness and required site standards. Ensure all documentation for the processes are current and retained.
Prepare and conduct site inductions.
Prepare documentation for training audits.
5.Prepare communication materials to enhance awareness, understanding and focus of all employees on SHE risks and remedial action.
Prepare monthly communication materials as required, including ad hoc toolbox talks.
6.Ensure that all kinds of waste on siteare disposed ofwithin legal compliance.
Develop definition of all types of waste.
Develop waste disposal plan.
Safety, Health & Environmental Officer Skills & Experience
Proven experience within a similar Health and Safety position.
Have an extensive knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements in an industrial / manufacturing setting. Understanding SHE tools and techniques, improvement methodologies and process analysis.
Have IOSH / NEBOSH certification, if not, ideally interested in working towards.
Have strong communication skills at all levels, with an ability to engage and gain buy-in from workforce.
Have excellent organisation skills with a keen eye for detail.
