Bloomberg Intelligence - Climate/Thematic Analyst

BI ESG team delivers data-driven and financially-informed ESG research complementing conventional financial analysis and providing critical insights that can help clients and investors make better informed investment decision by better understanding how climate change and the energy transition trends increasingly impact industries' landscape, supply chains, companies fundamentals and competitiveness as well as portfolio construction

We are looking for a highly-motivated research analyst to join our team, focusing on the intersection of Climate, the Energy Transition and boarder Themes.

We'll trust you to:
  • Leverage your ESG and climate-related knowledge as well as Bloomberg data to deliver investment research and models on climate related topics ranging from energy transition, mobility to biodiversity
  • Expand our market-driven climate and clean tech research, to further develop thematic investment portfolio, models and indices.
  • Publish interactive models and research that include investment conclusions
  • Explore climate-related thematic basket opportunities (we currently have a carbon neutral basket, an EV, a Hydrogen and a Future of Proteins basket).
  • Develop/ Expand on models such as a carbon value at risk model to assess the implication of carbon pricing on companies and industries.
  • Contribute and leverage BI Carbon, a proprietary dataset that normalize companies carbon targets per industry, forecast carbon emissions targets to 2030 and 2050 and run scenario analysis to assess companies commitment relative to temperature aligned benchmarks -- allowing comparability, scrutiny and analysis.
You'll need to have:
  • Five or more years of ESG research experience, with exposure to both climate and fundamental financial analysis.
  • Experience in sell side, buy side or other research / data providers
  • Knowledge of broader financial markets, and a specific subject matter expertise on climate risks
  • Ability to be a self-starter, independent-thinker, and collaborative team-player.
  • Working knowledge of the Bloomberg Terminal would be ideal
  • Strong knowledge of ESG reporting frameworks and the ability to examine financial materiality associated with climate-related risks and opportunities, and the metrics used to measure performance.
  • Understanding of key scientific, policy, and market developments related to climate and carbon markets that continue to shape corporate action and investment decisions.
  • Extraordinary primary research and writing skills.
  • Advanced analytical skills, finance and accounting concepts, practices and procedures.
We'd love to see:
  • Understanding of advanced concepts, practices and procedures of finance/accounting with solid experience interpreting financial statements and performing quantitative financial analysis
  • Master's degree or advanced certification such as a CFA charterholder.
  • Knowledge of ESG and climate issues
  • Excellent communication skills: data analysis and visualization creation, and strong interest in interacting with Bloomberg customers. Adept at articulating thematic strategy concepts to senior leadership, investment professionals, and investors.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; Intermediate proficiency in Python, with interest in accelerating
