Human Resources Assistant (Full-Time Contract)

Employment Type: One (1) year contract

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week(with the flexibility to work in the evenings and weekends)

Salary: $20 per hour plus 4% vacation pay

Reports to: Senior Manager – Human Resources

Location: On-site at 21 Carlaw Ave

Position Summary

The HR Assistant provides administrative support to the HR team and works in collaboration with the team members of other departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing administrative and clerical support in a full range of HR services including recruitment, benefits, payroll and health and safety
  • Scheduling, coordinating and confirming appointments, interviews, meetings, seminars, training sessions
  • Preparing and posting job advertisements, screening resumes and coordinating interviews.
  • Supporting the onboarding of new employees to ensure a positive experience
  • Preparing new employee files, collecting all relevant employee information and ensuring background and reference checks are completed
  • Maintain current HR files and databases updating and maintaining employee benefits, employment status, and similar records.
  • Assist with, plan and/or coordinate work events such as employee engagement, training etc.
  • Collecting, verifying and submitting agency timesheets and invoices
  • Support other HR functions as assigned


  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources or related field is required
  • Obtained or working towards CHRP designation
  • 1+ years of relevant experience in HR
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office 365, Teams, Google Suite, Zoom etc.
  • Experience using HR software and HRIS databases preferably Info-HR
  • Willing to take initiative and work independently when needed
  • Ability to interact with a range of people within a shelter environment.
  • Motivated to keep all communications healthy, respectful and productive.
  • Self-aware, flexible, multi-tasker with excellent listening skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
