Deschutes County is currently accepting applications for a Behavioral Health Specialist II South County Outpatient team. The incumbent will provide outpatient intensive services to a diverse group of clients from youth to older adults. This includes individuals with a variety of diagnoses: anxiety, depression, PTSD, bi-polar disorder, substance use disorders, and psychosis. Clinicians utilize a variety of evidenced-based treatment models. In addition to being skilled at providing individual and family counseling, the incumbent should also be able to provide integrated health interventions, case management services, and lead therapy groups each week. Successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team emphasizing treating clients with co-occurring mental health/substance use/ and medical conditions; They should be accomplished in collaboration with other members of the treatment team and be able to develop and maintain positive relationships with community partners and social service agencies. With the high prevalence of trauma among individuals receiving mental health services, it is required that the incumbent understand the effects of trauma on health, coping, and other aspects of the lives of those we serve.

$5,128.44 to $6,872.59 per month for a 172.67 hour work month.

$5,384.87 to $7,216.22 per month for a 172.67 hour work month for those possessing current licensure without restrictions from a recognized governing board in Oregon as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Recreational Therapy, Music Therapy, Art Therapy or a behavioral science field; AND one year of experience in the behavioral health field; OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job.

There are registration/certification requirements under the Mental Health and Addiction Counseling Board of Oregon (MHACBO) that apply to Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHP) hired by Deschutes County Health Services (DCHS). This only applies to QMHPs who do not possess current licensure or are currently pursuing licensure as an LCSW, LMFT, or LPC. Please see website for information on these requirements:

Preference will be given for:

  • Individuals with a Master's degree in Social work (MSW).
  • Current licensure without restrictions from a recognized governing board in Oregon as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
  • CADC certification and/or experience providing addictions treatment.
  • Experience with short-term or solution focused treatment therapy.
  • Experience with evidenced-base models of therapy, such as DBT, CBT, EMDR.
  • Experience treating individuals with SPMI, bipolar, and/or PTSD disorders.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
Must have a demonstrated ability to:
  • Provide short-term or solution focused treatment therapy.
  • Use evidenced-base models of therapy, such as DBT, CBT, EMDR.
  • Treat individuals with SPMI, bipolar, and/or PTSD disorders.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments utilizing the DSM 5.
  • Establish working diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Prepare concise and complete assessments and documentation related to client treatment, progress and services in a timely and professional manner.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Work within an Electronic Health Record system with advanced computer skills.
  • Work effectively both independently and in a team setting.
  • Act professionally with regard to code of ethics and confidentiality.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, clients, other agencies and the public at all times.
Necessary Special Requirements

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule when necessary, to meet client and department needs.

Must have dependable transportation and be able and willing to drive throughout Deschutes County in sometimes adverse weather conditions.

Computer literacy with strong typing and computer skills required.

Physical Requirements: Requires sufficient ambulatory ability to drive throughout Deschutes County and to provide face-to-face services in a variety of settings in the community, including but not limited to hospitals, jails, clinics, client homes, and community and residential settings within required response times. Must have the ability to work in an office that is environmentally controlled; possess sufficient hand coordination to perform keyboarding and data entry; arm/hand movements to retrieve work materials and operate a variety of general office equipment; and an ability to sit, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, stand, grasp, talk, hear, see, and lift up to 10 pounds on an occasional basis.
