    Responsibilities

    This position is located at the Fort Collins, Colorado Outpatient clinic for the Cheyenne VA Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

    -Provides screening for cognitive deficits to address specific functional questions or to determine if a referral for a complete neuropsychological evaluation or dementia assessment is needed;

    -Performs capacity/competency assessments when there are questions about a patient's ability to make medical decisions, perform other specific functions, or live independently;

    -Assesses patients' understanding of advanced directives and other forms of consent and assisting staff in determining how to present treatment options and other such material to patients in a format they can understand;

    -Provides individual and group interventions to support patients that are coping with feelings of grief and loss associated with disability and other life transitions;

    -Facilitates transition and adjustment to new living situations (e.g., nursing home, assisted living facility), and providing seamless intervention services, as appropriate;

    -Provides behavioral medicine interventions to manage pain, disability, address sleep problems, facilitate weight loss, promote smoking cessation, and enhance medical compliance;

    -Provides consultation other staff, nursing and primary care physicians, and mental health professionals concerning assessment findings and treatment plans for patients. This consultation is in the service of ensuring that care is coordinated, collaborative, and integrated within the provider team in the primary care setting;

    -Complies with national and local performance measures and clinical reminders, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients;

    -Provides crisis intervention when indicated including evaluation, assessment, triage, initiation of I support in Emergency Detention procedures, and disposition of patients experiencing behavioral health emergencies. As a licensed behavioral health professional, is required to provide "on-call" consultative services during evenings, nights and weekends, on a rotating basis with other qualified MHSL staff. While "on call" the incumbent is available to respond, by phone and in person as indicated by the situation, to the medical center to provide "on call" consultative behavioral health services timely. These services include evaluation, diagnosis, assessment, triage, and supporting the emergency department, medical units and RRTP in the disposition (especially recommended level of care) for patients presenting with behavioral health emergencies during off hours;

    -Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings held by the Service Line Director (or designee) and facility Director. Attends weekly Mental Health Service staff meetings;

    -Provides clinical supervision and instruction for psychology students;

    -Provides clinical services using tele-mental health/tele-home technology.

    Physical Requirements: Major duties are administrative in nature and are mostly sedentary (do not require constant physical activities). However, there may be times when hands on clinical duties must be done, this may require: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds); straight pulling (4 hours); pushing (4 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (2 hours); standing (7 hours); kneeling (1 hour); repeating bending (4 hours); both legs required; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/50 and to 20/100 in the other; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); mental and emotional stability.

    Qualifications
    *United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    *Education: Must have (1) a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed. OR (2) A doctoral degree in any area of psychology and, in addition, successfully complete a respecialization program (including documentation of an approved internship completed as part of the respecialization program) meeting both of the following conditions: (a) the respecialization program must be completed in an APA or a CPA accredited doctoral program; and (b) the specialty in which the applicant is retrained must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed AND Internships- (a) Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed and that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. OR (b) New VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Office of Academic Affiliations at the time that the individual was an intern; OR (c) VHA facilities that offered full-time, one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre- 1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement; OR (d) Applicants who completed an internship that was not accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed may be considered eligible for hire only if they are currently board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.

    *Licensure: Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

    *English Language Proficiency: Psychologists must be proficient in spoken and written English.

    Grade Determinations: GS-13 Staff Psychologist (Full Performance Level)

    (a) Experience. At least 2 years of experience as a professional psychologist, with at least one year equivalent to the GS-12 level.

    (b) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:

    1. Knowledge of, and ability to apply, professional psychological treatments to the full range of patient populations.

    2. Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.

    3. Knowledge of clinical research literature.
