Accounts Payable Specialist

Bicycle Transit Systems (Bike Transit) was established in 2013 and currently operates bike share systems in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. We have an incredible internal culture that is DEIJ-driven, innovative, and responsible. We are looking for a talented Accounts Payable (AP) Specialist to join our Philadelphia-based Finance team!


The AP Specialist will be responsible for performing the day-to-day ledger accounting in Bike Transit accounting software for all locations. With guidance from the Assistant Controller, the AP Specialist will handle accounts payable, daily cash reconciliations, and other ad hoc accounting tasks. The AP Specialist will work closely with the Finance team headquartered in Philadelphia. The ideal candidate has excellent math and Excel skills, a passion for finding solutions to complex problems, and is a “systems builder” by nature. This position requires a self-starting, highly detailed professional who uses technology to solve problems and is an excellent multi-tasker.


This position is part-time, 15-20 hours per week. Position will be mainly remote, however, visits to the office/warehouse and/or other sites may rarely be required. Mask wearing is currently required when at the worksite.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform the day-to-day general ledger accounting in Bike Transit accounting software for all locations.
  • Oversee the accounts payable mailboxes (both physical and digital) for each operating location.
  • Ensure bills are paid in a timely manner and coded correctly.
  • Upload the bills submitted for payment into the bill-pay systems for each operating location and ensure the appropriate Department Managers are assigned to each bill for approval.
  • Manage the syncing and/or recording of all AP transactions in Bike Transit accounting software.
  • Take ownership over vendor maintenance within the bill-pay system and Bike Transit accounting software, ensuring vendor payment and contact information is current and up to date.
  • Work with vendors to pay electronically, rather than by check.
  • Perform the administrative function on credit card expense reporting system (user and card management, GL coding & report structure, etc.)
  • Works with Assistant Controller to record Company credit cards.
  • Other projects and duties as directed by the Assistant Controller.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • College degree or equivalent work experience in accounting, business or related field is preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial analysis or similar role.
  • High proficiency in Excel, Word, and ability to learn new software.
  • Proficiency in small business accounting is required.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks required.
  • Ability to organize multiple projects, manage different personalities, demonstrate calm under pressure.
  • Self-starter who rises to the challenge, with a proven ability to create and implement efficient processes.
  • Maintain confidentially, remain open to others’ ideas and exhibit willingness to try new things.
  • Demonstrate strong organization skills while adapting to changes in the work environment.
  • Dependability, timeliness, detail oriented, and ability to understand when to lead and when to listen.
  • Excitement and interest in bike sharing a plus.
  • Positive attitude and sense of humor.

Physical Requirements and Special Demands:

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • This role requires the ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand, understand the speech of another person, see details of objects that are less than a few feet away, stand or sit for several hours straight at a time, and bend or stoop as necessary.
  • This is a part-time position approximately 20 hours/week. Weekend and evening hours may be required.
  • This position is Remote, However, visits to the office/warehouse and/or other sites may rarely be required. Mask wearing is currently required when at the worksite.
