Behavior Interventionist

Overview:We are looking for a full-time up to 32 hours per week Behavior Interventionist for our location in Palos Verdes, CA. This position is perfect for someone with a degree or interest in Psychology, Social Work or Behavioral Health related studies. This is an entry level position with the benefits and starts at an hourly rate of $17.50.
Beach Cities Learning is an innovative non-public school program, which serves the educational needs of special education students between the ages of 6 to 22. Designed to provide a stimulating, supportive, academically challenging and therapeutic program for students struggling in the public school arena. We provide students with the tools needed to be successful in school and life.Responsibilities:As a Behavior Interventionist, you’ll be a part of a school-based special education team.You’ll provide assistance to the teacher in the implementation of all program components such as: Clinical Program, Instruction, Special Education Services and Physical Fitness. You will be supported by a mentor, veteran behavior technicians and an on-site administrator manager.
  • Provide direct instructional support to individual and/or groups of students and monitor ability to follow directions and behavior.
  • Ride in school van to pick children up in the morning and drop them off in the afternoon.
  • Collect data regarding student(s) reaching goals/objectives as directed by licensed staff. Assist staff in maintaining charts and other records related to student(s) progress.
  • Reinforce academic behaviors taught by licensed staff and provide the student with opportunities to practice.
  • Assist student in community, recreational, school, and leisure activities under the direction of licensed staff.
  • Implement district approved techniques for verbal de-escalation and safe physical restraint, such as Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and required by the building administration and licensed staff.
Note: This is a 10-month position for the 2018-2019 school year. The hourly rate is $17.00 per hour.Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma required; college degree preferred
  • 1-2 years’ experience working with children in a special needs education setting
  • Ability to collaborate and receive to feedback, mentoring and direction from peers and supervisors
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining a professional and clinical perspective at all times, with the ability to not internalize or personalize (e.g. emotionally) in regard certain student behaviors or mannerisms that occur.
  • Demonstrated experience using physical ability and dexterity to safely and effectively use Crisis Management Interventions (including the use of therapeutic holds) of all involved (e.g. self, student, other employees
  • PCMA Certification a plus.
